It's raining sidewise.
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 12:10 PM by Gormy Cuss
High winds and steady driving rain -- yee haw! This is about as interesting as weather gets in the San Francisco area. We're supposed to get 4 inches of rain from this series of storms and I'm thinking that's a low estimate.

Anything that can be lifted and moved by the wind has been. My small aluminum-framed cold frame was lifted off the ground and tossed over in spite of the fact that it was anchored with stakes and had heavy weights on the lids. Good thing we brought in the lawn furniture yesterday.

2. It's a corker.
As long as the power stays on (always doubtful with these conditions) we'll be fine. We're not on a big slope or next to a creek bed. I am glad that we have a new roof and gutter system.

13. Heard it from my older relatives too.
when a storm was described as a corker it meant it was fun in a perverse sort of way like a roller coaster ride.

4. Rather hellish looking from bay area on up CA coast (pic)

It's just starting up here in the Central Valley.

We're supposed to have wind gusts up to 50 mph with sustained winds of 35-40 mph! :wow:
Should be interesting...I love wild weather ;)

8. I hope you're saving that trash to present to him after the storm.
I did that to my one assholish neighbor a few years ago when his construction crews let trash blow all over the street (the neighbor was himself a contractor and should have known better.)

Isn't this a crazy storm? I hope all three aren't as heavy as this one.

the trash is carpet and a whole bunch of other shit and i keep picking it up so his crap doesn't block the storm drain, what a inconsiderate mofo. this storm is unreal, i don't mind the rain but the wind, hate it.

6. Our power is going in and out every few minutes.
My guess is a lot of the outlying areas are already without power, and this thing is still ramping up.

10. YIkes. I've only lost power once and it was for less than a minute.
The neighborhood trees are taking a beating though. Lots of small limbs flying around out there and I'm sure when this is over some large limbs will have dropped in the neighbors' yards and on the road.

16. Kinda like when the snow drifts clear off the sidewalk across the street
and piles snow against your front door, except there are no drifts.

17. A tree
next to my house looks like it's fighting with it self. Splitting in two and going flat then bouncing back to the center. Wicked winds.

19. Just saw the neighbor's tree split down the middle.
Doesn't look like it's going to hit the house.

20. I watched an old windmill tower come down
It was right out my window, across the alley. The 55ft tower, with a huge trumpet vine growing on it missed doing any serious damage, but my hummingbirds are going to be very disappointed this spring. I'm really bummed, too, because the vine produced blossoms all summer long and was really something to behold.

Speaking of raining sideways, my pair of hummingbirds are havening a tough go at the feeder that is flying sideways. I want to bring them in and give them a rest.

Fence down the alley fell.

Roofing material from unknown source in front street

Someone's fireplace cap is in my yard (not mine)

Crazy day. Really crazy!

I'm surprised the windows haven't imploded yet. Stay safe everyone.
