Get your HDTV Convertor box coupons here and now
https://www.dtv2009.gov/

As you know, the government is providing a limited number of coupons for free convertor boxes for those who do not have HDTV. I'm getting both coupons. I figured if I don't need them by 2009 then perhaps I can donate my coupons and/or boxes to a family who might need them and doesn't have access to a computer to sign up for it (my mother said the phoneline is impossible to get through - she called and asked me to sign up)

1. You only need it if you're using an antenna. Your cable company will take of the signal for you if

you're on cable.

2. Also, you don't need it if you have satellite, which I do.

4. True but there may be people on rabbit ears plus...
I'm thinking there are people on Rabbit ears because they can't afford cable and perhaps they don't have computers too.

I had rabbit years up until 2001. I order 2 coupons - if I don't need them (and I won't) I'll donate my boxes to someone who might need them. Perhaps Goodwill might help distribute boxes.

11. People with rabbit ear probably need the vouchers.
If you have questions about cable, call your company. I don't have any boxes on any of my sets from the cable company and they're still saying they'll take care of the HD signal.

7. What about having cable, but no box?
I have an analog TV in the bedroom with cable plugged directly in. I would think in that situation, one would need a box.

10. is that all cable, or just digital cable?

3. What about a battery powered portable TV?
Living in Florida, having the battery powered 6 inch TV was a godsend during the hurricanes. Does this mean if there is another hurricane or power outage I won't be able to get a signal?

8. I think the box is placed between the TV and the Rabbit ears
They have information about the Rabbit Ears so I would check it out and order some boxes. Better to have one then to realize you need it when it's too late!

9. Good information,
Thanks LynneSin. :D

Right now, I have sat tv and a DVR, but I don't know how much longer I can maintain that set up. I was thinking of letting go of the sat and just using the TV for movies and my DVDs. And I don't know if I'll be able to afford flat screens by the due date or not. So, the converter box may be an option for me.
