1. I thought I was once.
Now I'm not sure if I actually was and things just changed, or if I was just being young, stupid and hormonal. :P

On the plus side though, she had big boobs and the sex was good.

Why am I talking about my exes boobs? I should get to sleep. My brain is starting to go haywire.

19. You wanna talk about conspiracies?
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 02:55 AM by DarkTirade
The peaches are the biggest one of them all! They taste sweet. They want you to eat them.

But they're peach colored and fuzzy and shaped like butts, and they have something brown and inedible in the center.

They're trying to teach us to eat our own asses.

I'm still working on who the 'they' in this scenario are though. I believe they're related to the same people who are in charge of the shoelace conspiracy.

The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

26. Silliness. Is that based on an impression you've garnered
or something Freudian?

I've replaced love with a variety of things over the years: drawing, writing, home decoration, childcare, piano, teaching piano, cooking, drinking, philosophy and lately, adopting cats. None of these are sufficient but my experience with love is such that they are all preferable.

actually, I am at the present time. Going on two years and we met on the internet. This time around, I was really careful to pick someone based on the content of their heart, not something superficial like their looks or their bank account. 50. My wife hates that I consider "love" to be largely a chemical reaction
"love" being the cheap connotation it is in our culture; sort of the 'flash in the pan' thing.

I am a fan of time spent and usually largely disregard my friends' relationships when they are less than a year old; not in a wet blanket sort of way, but I am just not that interested except for the sex details.

"new person" sex IS pretty hot, I admit.

Congrats, you gooey, cheezy thing!

55. I have strong feelings of attraction and affection for my girlfriend.
But not so much that it over-rides the rational parts of my brain. I call that love, but others might not. But this sort of gooey, yelling loudly, melting stuff just isn't me. When I was younger, I was a fairly angry child. When I was a teen, I started getting interested in psychology as a way to get over my anger. Since then, I've developed skills to more or less shut off strong negative emotions, only letting them come through when it suits me. The side-effect? I don't get stupid about love, and my choices for relationships have been almost flawless (I've never gotten together with someone who has been bad for me, or screwed me over).

I really think people need to learn to control emotions better. It REALLY helps you out.

59. That is interesting to me
I was a pretty oversensitive sap who had his heart "broken" (I no longer believe in this thanks to Frank Zappa - "broken hearts are for assholes...") too many times. I also had to learn to control very strong emotions; as a result I do not feel overwhelmed by love like so many do.

Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 02:38 PM by supernova
I don't mind the sensation of being overwhelmed; it can be quite pleasurable.

I'm just trying to find someone with whom it's safe for me to do that with though. So, I'm being rather standoffish right now, until I can figure out if he's going to treat me well or not.

61. What a lot of people don't realize is that you don't HAVE TO go through that.
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 02:42 PM by Evoman
Everyone can learn to control their emotions, it's just that most people don't want to. And when they are not thinking rationally, they set themselves up to get hurt over and over. And it's like a broken record. It's sort of pathetic.

Now, this is usually where somebody comes on and spouts some cliche about how it's "better to have loved and lost...blah blah blah" or assures me that I'm never going to be happy unless I open myself to being hurt. And I find it all very silly. I'm not some sort of recluse. I've had more than my share of girlfriends and dalliances, and I've had plenty of fun. I've also got a long term girlfriend with who I share my life. There is no drama in my relationship, we never fight, I am at peace, and if something does happen (like cheating, etc) then it will end and I will keep on going.

I'm sorry if I sound defensive (and perhaps I am), but I am often lectured by lovey dovey people who have terrible relationships, are unhappy, and get all excited about all the love they have, when they have it. And then I have to put up with their sorry little sob fests when they get, as I put it, romantically pwned.

68. So am I.
Didn't I mention that I was a very emotional, very angry kid? That's just an excuse. At it takes is a critical (but realistic) assesment of every emotion that pops into your head, and a determination to controlling them.

To be honest, when I get hurt or very threatened (i.e. when I twisted my ankle, or when I had to jump out of the way of a car that almost hit me) I lose that control and I get extremely angry and hostile (although in my defense, it takes me mere minutes to recover).

I know very well how to have self control. I'm looking for someone with whom it isn't always necessary.

And falling in love with someone is not on my agenda. I always end up hurt.So I have a guard up because it hurts me more and more everytime. Feels like a tank just crushes me. Sometimes I feel like I am the only girl in the world who wants a guy to love her but all I meet are guys who only want sex. And since I won't give that,I will rather stay alone.

and it has been hard lately. I want a kid but I am no longer sure if I want a husband because I am always afraid that one day,his feelings will change and I will be left alone. I do have feelings for a guy right now and its so hard for me to trust him because of my past. I really care about this guy a lot.But I am always questioning his every statement and move - its like I have my dukes up in a boxing match. I don't want to be fooled anymore.

77. you're reading from the story of my life, except
that I had a child... w/ someone who of course left me and the child alone.

I want to be able to trust, it's just that trust and intimacy take time, and I have yet to meet a man who wants to invest the time. They want the sex first. I don't play that way any more.

The sad thing is that as I have gotten older, I think I'm all the more worth the investment. I like who I've become (the trust issues aside). I'm interesting, and loving and genuinely willing to share my life...

I run into two types of guys

1) The "I'm-in-this-for-what-I-can-get-out-of-it-right-now" type and the

2) I've been married and I'm never doing that again type.

I'll pass. Neither one of those guys is worth a moment of my energy. I have much more interesting things to do than to chase after a dead-end.

A wise person once proffered me this bit of flame bait
"A man trades love for sex; a woman trades sex for love" Add most/many and I think it is useful.

Change the "male" and "female" to yang and yin energies and I think we are even closer to something worthwhile.

love...look into my eyes and kiss me!!

89. That's part of the point, what is you partner looking for??
Presuming you are "yin" dominant, of COURSE you want love for love; the saying is a warning to all in my opinion.

There are plenty of people out there looking for "no strings" sex too.

I relate because I am a love oriented man, but my astrology indicates I am very yin dominated due to a proliferation of water and earth signs.

I have found that my long term relationship works well in part because I am more romantic with my wife than I am prone to and she is more raw sexually than she is prone to.

That's it! I am starting a thread!

97. If you were into astrology
I would tell you to look for a man who has a preponderence of "yin" signs:Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo

I guess it might make the single-and-unhappy contingent a bit jealous...

But friends should just be happy for you! :)

82. A lot of our friends are in that single-and-unhappy group.
And they are happy for us.

It's just that we would like to see our friends have the same thing we have with someone they really love, so we could be just as happy for them.

What can I say? We're bleeding heart spread-the-love kind of liberals. :)

That's why you're here -- and why you're awesome! :D

I had a friend visiting a few weeks ago who was coming out of a bad breakup... i was a little worried that B and i being so happy would make her feel worse. She's one of those totally fantastic people who deserves the best of everything, but has just had bad luck in relationships. I hope she gets as lucky as i am someday!

98. No.
In love with an idea, yes, a concept, the idea of a man I'd thought I'd meet at last--my heart ached, literally, when it fell through.

Not with anything beyond fantasy.
