Any serious runners in the lounge?
What shoe/model do you wear? Mine, as is always the case, is getting discontinued (New Balance 1060). I'm getting ready for my first Marathon (I've run several halves, and even an ultra, but never a 26.2) and I'm kinda stressing because I can't find my shoe in my size. Changing shoes before a big run like that is never a good idea- especially with less than 2 months before the run.

1. Good Luck!!!
I am not a serious runner...

I run a little when I walk.... to be quite honest
I haven't run in years....

In Feb. it will be a year since I quit smoking and started at the gym...

I am incorporating running into my treadmill and lake walks.....
I forgot how wonderful it feels......

2. I usually wore Nike Air or Pegasus.
But share your experiences, because some recent studies have shown that the most expensive running shoes may be not only a waste of money but dangerous.

3. I wear the Brooks adrenalin model for stability, with superfeet orthotics added..I have had no knee
or hip pain with this combo...but everyone is different. This brand just seems to work best for me. Good luck...finding a shoe you love can be tough...and then they discontinue that model!

4. I know that you don't change shoes right before a big run, but
I think it's okay to test new shoes two months before a run. That's not so bad, is it?

7. Yea, but here's my dilemma...
...My selection of shoes is limited here on Base (I'm in the Navy stationed in Spain). And if I were to order a new pair from, say Road Runner Sports, get them, and have time to run in them, we're talking end of January. The Marathon in Feb 24th. It seems like I have a lot of time, but I really don't.

Sorry for shooting off my mouth.

11. No worries. It's cool...
...and if I were in the States, it wouldn't be a problem. Road Runner Sports lets you run in a pair of shoes for a good while, and if they don't work out for you, exchange them with no questions asked.

5. I used to be.
Used to be quite the jock back in the day. Never did a marathon, though. I forget what kind of shoe I wore. I ran about 4 miles a day. I ran track a couple of years in high school. Sorry, I am no help. The subject matter got me thinking back in the long ago and far away.

8. For trail running, I use The North Face's Arnuva 50 Boa...
...I'm telling you, it's by far the best trail shoe out there. If I can't find a replacement for traditional road racing, I'll use that one. Dean Karnazes used it to run his 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days thing. I've got a brand new pair I'm saving for the Ultra I'm doing this May.

9. Don't get me started about Dean
But I digress!

I LOVE the Blur. LOVE. They make it with Gore-Tex now. The Innov-8 is terrific for more UK-like "fell running."

12. You don't like Dean?
I'm not into guys and all, but if I were, I'd probably want to do him. He's kinda a stud, doing all those freakin' marathons and all.

13. I actually do have his book
I just think he's a bit of a poseur, as do my ultra-runner friends. Even though I can barely run 10 miles, I'm friends with some of the top ultra-runners in the world. Scary, but true.

16. That's way cool!
Yea, I see your point on Karnazes, but he does a great deal for various Charities, and I just have a hard time not liking someone who does the kind of things he does. As far as his running goes, yea, there are probably better. You should tell your Ultra friends about the one we're doing this May in Spain. It's a good time, and a great, great course. www.lalegion101.es is the link (Spanish needed).

18. Asics all the way, baby!
I switched 3 years ago and never looked back.

I love the Asics 2010. Great for my foot.

I usually try to break in a new pair about 1-2 months before a marathon. Thats plenty of time.
