Is 5 ft 6 tall for a woman?
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 06:05 PM by Bicoastal
I have a blind date of sorts coming up soon, and the girl sounds quite lovely--except the friend who set it up has described her as TALL. (For the record, the friend, also female, is about 5 feet.)

I've been worrying about this--I'm only five foot six. Is it possible she's my height or shorter, and still qualifies as tall?

(I know, I know--in a perfect world, this shouldn't be an issue. But I've NEVER gotten far with women whose dimensions exceed my own.)

Not really classically tall. She's about medium height for a woman.

I'm 5 ft even though.

I'm about 4 ft 11 though.

But apparently 5ft 4 is the "average" height for women.

But she is a really really nice person and she cleans up right pretty.

You shouldn't be superficial! Go out with her!

The reason it didn't work out between us was just that she wasn't rich enough

8. 5'4" is considered average
So she's technically a little taller than average, but I wouldn't describe her as TALL or anything. Does that make sense?

9. Not really.
That's what height I am. I think it's slightly above average, but I don't consider myself all that tall, there are a lot of women around a lot taller than me. I have a coworker who's like 6'3" (she's someone I would describe as TALL.)

For the record, a lot of women wouldn't, ahem, look down on a shorter guy. Some of the hottest sex I ever had in my life was with a totally hobbitlike dude.

Not unless you always position yourself so that you look tiny in forced perspective. :D

Guy I'm thinking of was probably around 5'2". Like Ronnie James Dio and Prince - but you can't be really hobbit-like if you're skinny. You have to have a little pudge too.

it's may not be height that is a "problem" to gals taller that you but your ANXIETY about your height - be CONFIDENT already. Don't be like a guy who is going bald and does the combover thing which only calls attention to insecurities - PROJECT CONFIDENCE! You cannot change your height but you CAN change your attitude!!! And for the record I've dated men who were my height and that is two inches shorter than you!!!

However, I have several female cousins that are 5 foot 10, and 6 feet tall. Now THAT's tall for a woman. I would consider 5'6 taller than average but not by much.

36. I'm 5'6"!
:headbang: I do feel tall sometimes, especially in my neighborhood where everyone's short and round.

I've been freaked out lately because I bought two hoodie sweatshirts and I had to exchange them both for EXTRA LARGES. My shoulders are wide for a chick and my hips are a little big but I am so NOT an extra large x( I used to wear 7's and 8's and now I wear 9's and 10's but next to most people I see I'm like a stick.
This pisses me off so bad, I've written to cafe press about their dumb sizing x(

Speculating, especially in a negative sense, will only ensure that your date flops. You're committed to the date, right? So you know that you will get that far. What happens beyond that is unimportant. Enjoy yourself! :D

43. To somebody that is 5 feet tall
a woman that is 5'4" or 5'6" is probably pretty tall. If you're that concerned about height, you could have asked if she was taller than you.

From my own anecdotal observations, you could be okay. I've tended to notice that shorter women often end up with tall guys or short guys, and not many in between - I have two cousins that are about 5'1" and one married a guy that is like 6'2" or 6'3" and the other married a guy that is like 5'3" - however, women that are closer to average height tend to be be open to all sizes of guy.

But, I'll also say that my ex-wife used to claim she was 5'1" (probably realistically closer to 4'11" than 5'1") and married me, a guy who is 5'9"/5'10"

I'm 5 feet exactly and yeah 5'4" or 5'6" seems tall to me. And the short woman tall guy thing...My older sister is 4'11 and married to a 6'1" guy and my younger sister is 4'9" and married to a guy who is 6' 2" (talk about Mutt n Jeff!)....Since we are all shorter than our parents it our genetic duty to only marry tall guys....:D

48. of course
before me, my ex dated a guy that was like 5'4" or so... and, one of her qualifications for marrying a guy was that he had to be taller than her (my response to her was that she didn't really narrow the field down very much with that one...)

so, I probably seemed tall to her compared to her previous boyfriend.
