Anyone else on the West Coast celebrate "East Coast New Year's?"
We often have a New Year's Eve dinner with another family or two, and, with kids in the picture, it's much easier to watch the ball drop at 9 pm West Coast time as we ring in the new year in solidarity with our friends up and down the Eastern seaboard. Our local friends can get home before the drunks are out, and everyone's happy.

(Okay, might be a wee bit lame ... :hide: ... but it works for us.)

1. I'm going to be celebrating New Year's with whoever's midnight is at about 6 Pacific time
I have to go to work at 3am tomorrow. :( My own fault - I requested it because I have a lot to do. But it means I'll be drinking my champagne (because I won't be denied my champagne x( ) with dinner.

2. I'm on the East Coast, but we're fans of bothering you lesser souls in other time zones.
We call up family in Chicago: "Hey, it's 200_ here! What's yer problem??" Same with family in California. I'm just waiting for the year the Californians call us back when they reach midnight ("What's yer problem??? Gone to bed already?? 3 AM? That sucks for you!") :P

4. Hey, what can I say? We're cowed by your Time Zone Superiority.
For example: "Saturday Night Live"? Not so live here ...

*prostates self in dutiful submission*

5. Haha. Ohhh, the West Coast.
It was weird watching Monday night Football at like 7 PM in Chicago, especially so because it's advertised, even out there, for 8 PM. Acck.

It's not 2008, until it's midnight in whatever time zone I'm in. One year I was in Hawaii for New Years and I admit that kinda sucked. It was practically January 2nd in half the world. ;)

On edit: Being in Hawaii didn't suck. Quite the opposite. But the time zone thing sucked.

6. We celebrated Chicago's New Year last year with our friends
It worked well. It worked so well that I'm sorry we're not doing so tonight.
