I've always wanted to ask: When a song suddenly appears on a given evening's set list, retrieved from among the hundreds in his back catalog, is it because Dylan's been listening to his old records? Jerry Garcia could hear the song in all my bad recordings, the song that was buried there. So if I want to sing something different, I just bring out one of them Dead records and see which one I wanna do. I never do that with my records." Speaking of which: "I've heard it said, you've probably heard it said, that all the arrangements change night after night. Well, that's a bunch of bullshit, they don't know what they're talkin' about. The arrangements don't change night after night. The rhythmic structures are different, that's all. You can't change the arrangement night after night -- it's impossible."

his version is like an elegy. his version is about memory. why is that guy smiling while he sings those lyrics? they sound good on the chorus, but....okay, have your own opinion then.

8. You're right...

...there have been notable Dylan covers, but I don't think that any cover...with the exception of Jimi...should replace the original.

There's an interesting segment in the "Jimi Hendrix Movie" in which it's made known that Jimi would pull anyone and everyone aside to sing the praises of Bob.

Jimi didn't write a single word or note of "All Along The Watchtower," but I will always view it as a "Hendrix song."

Beyond that, it's a matter of taste, but I will always appreciate Bob as a songwriter AND performer.

20. I'm with you; I appreciate Dylan as both a songwriter and performer...

hell, I also really appreciate him s a master manipulator of other's perceptions and modern celebrity. I think that the fact that he is associated with "rustic tools" such as the acoustic guitar and harmonica leads many people to overlook this aspect of Dylan. Andy Warhol and David Bowie learned it from Dylan.

...I also agree with Ringo Starr in a recent Rolling Stone interview, in which he said that when you go to a Bob Dylan concert, you get the Bob he wants to give you on that particular night.

I've heard Bob mumble and stumble his way through a performance, and I've also heard greatness.

22. Saw him about 8 months ago (?). And, no, neither Elvis Costello nor Amos Lee was with him.

And Dylan didn't "sing" a single song - he just "talked" them, saying the words.
It was pretty disappointing for people who know every word and are trying to sing along.
