I would imagine that the image wouldn't be as sharp as it would be on a 1080p.

I'm just wondering if trying to have your HD player downscale a movie in 1080p to a HDTV with smaller resolution really messes up the visuals to where you'd be better off getting a SD format DVD and having the HD player upscale it to 720p.

1. You'll be fine. The tv will convert it correctly. The HD player will upscale any SD discs you have
will play the HD Disc at the highest resolution you can handle on the TV.

2. Unless the TV can't accept a 1080p signal.
I'd recommend setting the Blu-Ray's output to 720p.

4. Depending on TV and connection type (HDMI or component), it might not,
especially if the TV/monitor is a few years old. I have seen more than a few older ( v. 1.1 and 1.2) HDMI inputs that won't accept a 1080p 1.3 handshake, and component inputs that will not accept 1080p at all (if the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player will even output a component 1080p signal).
