I admit that there's something I absolutely, positively cannot do
and it doesn't involve anything that would lock a thread.

I used some money my aunt sent to buy a combo DVD recorder and VCR. I truly believed I could copy the tapes of Lelapin when she was a little girl and save them to DVD.

I've tried for an entire week. I cannot get the damn thing hooked up properly and working.

I am lacking the home theater system gene...

:-(

The DVR cable box, the tv, the DVD/VCR combo? They're all over the living room floor. I hope someone coming to the party can help hook it up. :(

Or at least distract me from stressing out over it... :P

3. She just called
they're heading out on the interstate (best chance of good roads) and should be at her dad's house in a few hours.

She said on the way to the airport yesterday that she had a feeling it was going to be a long day. She was right...

;)

2. if it's a combo, there shouldn't be any wires involved
as it's the same system.

4. 10 year old tv
Edited on Sun Dec-23-07 12:34 PM by lizziegrace
DVR box from Time Warner and the combo system. I've had to use a modulator to use my old DVD player since I have no video/audio jacks on the old tv.

I've missed a connection somewhere as the DVD/VCR combo will run, but isn't viewable on the old TV

6. Try this:
First: Just plug your cable/vcr output into its cable input connection of the RF modulator and the DVD player into the RF modulator's AV inputs.

Second: Connect a standard cable from the RF modulator to your TV.

Third: Select either the channel 3 or 4 output on the back of the RF modulator.

Fourth: Turn the TV on and the RF modulator will automatically detect your cable input for the TV. When you want to watch your DVD player, just put the TV on channel 3 or 4, turn the DVD on and the RF modulator will automatically detect the DVD player and will display your movie.

8. I hope you get it fixed soon. It's a worthwhile project.
I'm in the process of printing about 100 of 1000 slides
that were taken by my father and mother from 1950 on.
I'm making two photo albums for my parents.

Merry Christmas, and a Warm meet-up.

I'm glad to hear that lelapin is closer to her destination.

11. we have some of these at my work.
1) make sure it is a DVD recorder and not just a combo player; my dad made this mistake.

2) my work units are very complicated (IMO) for a completely contained VHS to DVD dubbing unit. To do an entire VHS tape to DVD, no stopping, clipping or changing tapes - 8 steps. To do clips or multiple tapes - 18 steps. It is insane. I had to distill the manual down to easy to read steps for our patrons.

Using the combo units made me regret, very briefly and for the first time ever, dropping out of my engineering program 10 years ago.

Anyhow, the TV/monitor connections, for my units, is purely for monitoring the project. The dubbing is completely self contained

13. It's going back
I don't need to be a slave to things that require more time and mental energy than I want to give. I need to finish quilts, read and maybe write a bit (journal-for me only).

16. Does RL or ThomCat know how to do that stuff?
I literally don't even know how to turn on my DVD player.
When my kids are here, they do it.

Glad to hear that lelapin's ok!
