Survey for DUers who smoke
Hey all. I'm doing a class project and I just need some anecdotal evidence from people who smoke.

1. How often do you smoke?
2. When did you start smoking?
3. Under what circumstances did you start?
4. Do you plan to quit in the near future?

I smoke about 1-1/2 to 2 packs a day. I started smoking when I was a teenager because it was the cool thing to do then. I am trying to quit. If I don't, it will kill me eventually. My mother died of lung cancer and my father of emphysema.

The only time I quit was each time I was pregnant. Cigarettes made me nauseous. I started up again after giving birth because I wanted to lose weight.

1. How often do you smoke? I smoke 2 or 3 cigars each day.
2. When did you start smoking? Early 20's, i think.
3. Under what circumstances did you start? Nothing special. Tried a good cigar and decided i liked it.

20. I started smoking cigarrettes when I was 14
I smoked on average of a pack a day for better than 20 years, but I quit in November 2002

I started when friends introduced me to cigarrettes. My mom smoked (and other family sometimes) but I didn't try it until I was with someone else (I was about 12, I think)

24. OK,
1. half-pack to a pack a day, though it's been more towards the lower end of that lately, for which I'm glad. Though if I go out drinking, all bets are off, and every ciggie in the vicinity would do well to HIDE.

2. I started at 15. I'm 33 now, so someone who was born when I started can vote now. I hope they vote Dem.

3. I, like most everyone, started because my friends did.

4. Anaxamander, I've been planning to quit since I started.

How often - constantly. (1 1/2 to 2 packs a day)

Started/circumstances - 1971 when pregnant with my second child. There was no evidence of nicotine hurting unborn children yet, and at that time, the doctor's big guilt trip for pregnant women was weight gain.

I quit for two years five years ago and have tried at least four times since to quit again. The most I've made is 10 days. Yes, I would love to quit.

27. Answers
1. On average I'd say about every 45 minutes. Pack to a pack and half per day depending on where I am and what I'm doing.

2. I think I was 14. I quit once when I was 29 and stayed off them for six years, then started back after my divorce, then smoked for about a year and then quit again for a year, and then started up again.

3. I stole them from my mother thinking at the time it was cool and grown-up.

4. Not in the near future, and certainly not while enduring the bush administration. :-)
