1933 NYT article about Nazi Concentration Camps.
Reminds me of Gitmo without the ovens.

Headline: NEW YORK TIMES, Aug. 29, 1933 Ftpg. 2 line, 1 col.
"Nazis Hold 80,000, Camp Study Shows" & subheads: "German Socialist Paper Says 40,000 of These are in 65 Concentration Centres". (from ebay)

2. It sounds like everything that's going on.
Including arresting and detaining dissenters. And we have no way of knowing if there are ovens at Gitmo; could be we just haven't heard about them yet. Our own "Nazi" party gets very uptight when the comparisons are made to the original Nazis but the comparisons are there, nonetheless. Even the Prison Industrial Complex we support in this country shares similarities.

3. Life Magazine did a big
article about the concentration camps some time in the late 30s, 1938 or thereabouts. I used to read old Life Magazines and recall the article, but don't recall the exact time frame.

These days we really get weirded out by the open use of the words "concentration camps" but it's important to remember that back then it didn't yet also mean death camp. Even though "Death Camp" as a designation meant specifically places like Auschwitz, Sobibor, Treblinka, and others whose main purpose was to kill.

4. I'd like to read the Huey Long story at the top of the page
"Huey Long Gets a Black Eye in Row at Long Island Party." Wow, an E! type story from 1933. Thanks for the post.
