works really well too but it's a tad pricey.

8. Abreva is danged expensive but I would never
go without when I have a cold sore. (Sometimes it clears me up in a day and other times it doesn't help that much. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong.)

13. my niece is prone to cold sores and she uses Abriva, she actually told me to try it on my lips
so i bought some and i use at night right before i go to sleep. I'm not sure why some people are prone to cold sores and some are not, my Nana gets something similar in her left eye, it's a type of virus.

I like regular old Chapstick, or Neosporin now has a chapped lip product that seems to be pretty good.

5. Carmex is good. Burt's Bees is wonderful. Chapstick is just fine.
I've never really noticed any benefit in buying the more pricey stuff - all you need is a barrier to keep the air from sucking moisture out of your lips.

Even the cheapest, most generic stuff I've bought works just fine.

I just haven't heard 'stop n' shop' in so long. I was emoting there for a moment...

I live in a desert clime now and find hemp oil, shea butter or even coconut oil works really well. You can buy empty tubes, coconut oil, peppermint or some other essential oil and make tons of low cost balm that can be kept in the fridge.

put on at night, cover with a pair of gloves, preferably cotton. Wear while you sleep.

59. Do the same for your feet
In fact, in the deep wintertime, when my skin is incredibly dry all over, I slather this stuff all over my body after a shower, put on my flannel pjs & hop in bed. The warmth helps the skin absorb the vaseline. You can use it on your face too, albeit very lightly.

Eartha Kitt swears by it, too.

56. Best advice in the whole thread. Drink more water! And...try L'Occitane's Blue Stick.
I had an extended stay in the hospital after major surgery.
The narcotics did a real number on my lips.

Use L'Occitane's blue stick with shea butter. You won't find a more hydrating lip treatment.

33. My grandfather's advice:
Find a farm near you, and find the freshest pile of cow dung you can and smear it on your lips. It doesn't do a thing for the chapping, but it keeps you from licking them.

42. award-winning pocket sized blue tin Nivea
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 08:14 PM by grasswire
Europeans carry this little tin everywhere; and yet you can find it in every drugstore here, too. It costs a buck at my grocery store. It contains rich, rich soothing cream. You dab on a bit with your pinky finger. Perfect.

The design of the tin hasn't changed since 1925 until this year, when a new one (not above) will come along. The older ones are collectors items, selling on eBay for 20 times the purchase price.

49. Stop using lip balm
Seriously.

The taste and feel of lip balm encourages you to lick your lips causing them to dry even more. Stop using balm and once your lips heal you'll find little cause to use lip balm.
