I was gonna make candy for the kids, but realized that once it's at the hard crack stage
it's a lot more fun to just pour it directly on their skin.

6. The only plural noun in that sentence was "kids", so "their" is a reference to "kids".
Takes some of the humor out, though, to have to explain it.
