Riddle (Easy)
You come to fork in the road.
One leads to Boston, the other to New York - or wherever
You are told beforehand that you will meet 2 men.
One always lies and the other always tells the truth.
You have one question to ask either where to go.

What is it. and where do you go?

1. I'd say "Would the other guy give me permission to kick you both in the nuts?"
Then I'd go whichever damn way I felt like. :P

But that's just me.

2. If I wanted to New York, which direction would the other guy tell me to go?
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 11:12 PM by MrScorpio
Both would give you the Boston direction, meaning the opposite would be the direction to NYC

6. The truth teller would say that the liar would send you in the Boston direction
Knowing that you want to go to New York.

The Liar, would point towards Boston and say that the Truth teller would say it's New York, thus lying.

Which ever direction each one would say the other would tell you to go, the opposite is where you want to be.

15. He's right.
The honest guy would honestly tell you, He'll point you (in the wrong direction) that way.

The dishonest guy will lie and tell you, he'll point you that way (pointing in the wrong direction).

Either way, you'll be pointed in the wrong direction, so go the other way.

7. "If I asked you which way Boston was
what would you say?"
Then the liar would have to lie about lying... so he'd tell the truth. Then I'd go the other way. :P

11. Your riddle doesn't let us know where we want to go. The answer I recall is "where are you from?"
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 08:08 AM by JVS
The liar will lie and send you to truthtown, the truth teller will send you the same place.
But the terms of the riddle specified that if you go to liartown you'll be killed whereas truthtown is where you wanted to be.

12. You turn to one ...
Point to one road and ask "Does the other road go to Boston?"

Road you are pointing at goes to Boston:
Liar: Yes
Truth: No

Road you are pointing at goes the other way:
Liar: No
Truth: Yes

If the answer is No, the road you are pointing at goes to Boston. Otherwise, it goes elsewhere.

13. You ask one of them if the other one
would prefer taser, or waterboarding.

Both will start talking, and fast.

16. I pull out a .44 magnum, and ask "Do you want your head blown clean off?"
The liar will say "Yes", so I will blow his head clean off and turn his meat into beef jerky for the rest of the long walking trip I have ahead of me. Then I ask the truth guy which way to New York. After he points it out, I shoot him in the knees so he won't follow me, and with his blood - in order to help fellow travelers who will come after me - I write "New York" in his blood on the New York path, and "Boston" in his blood on the other path, with arrows.

Because I have a gun, I get to ask two questions.

No one ever thinks to ask about the road in the middle.
