Question about whole coffee beans.
I was feeling really crappy when I was at the store today, so I was just grabbing what I needed as quickly as possible so I could get home. Well, I am unpacking my groceries and discover that I bought whole coffee beans. :banghead: I don't have a coffee grinder. Is it ok to grind them in my food processor? Or am I going to have to figure something else out?

Thanks in advance for your java wisdom.

1. I don't know why it wouldn't be OK...
I'd try it.

3. Sometimes I like to double check.
I have done some pretty innocuous things before that turned out to be a horrible mistake.

I love my food processor. I don't want to screw it up. :)

Thanks for answering.

:hi:

4. Why use two?
It seems to me it would be more fun to set them on the counter and smack them with one spoon.

No more frustration. But no coffee either. :(

Two spoons. Got it. ;)

6. It won't be the perfect grind, of course, but it'll be fine.

I would do it in small batches. You don't want to overwork and overheat the beans too much.

Or you can use as the perfect excuse to go get yourself a wonderful $200 burr grinder.

9. I have a little food processor, so little batches is all I can do.
Thanks for the advice, though. I wouldn't have thought about overheating the beans.

That grinder is going to have to go on my fantasy wish list right now. I can barely afford to pay attention.

11. or a coffee grinder for $15
If you love coffee, you really ought to try fresh-ground beans anyhoo. The aroma is significantly better. You can pick up coffee grinders for a song.

13. What you should do is take this opportunity to let your S.O. know that what would really make you
happy for Christmas is an old fashioned hand crank coffee grinder. No pressure, just drop a little hint. And then you can watch him schlepp all over town trying to find an antique shop that has one. Could be lots of fun. And think how good it will make him feel if/when he finds one? You would actually be doing him a favor!
