What are your favorite podcasts?
I'm always looking for interesting, new stuff to listen to. I listen to NPR's "All Things Considered" and "Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me." But I'd like some other stuff. Not politics, though. I get enough of that here.

What NON-POLITICAL podcasts do you enjoy listening to, and why?

If you could also provide a link for where we might find or listen to that podcast, that would be great.

1. I podcast Fresh Air, It's all Politics, and Talk of the Nation from NPR...
...I also podcast a couple of Golf Podcasts, another called "Notes in Spanish" to help me with my Spanish (Duh!), and AP News.

3. I stand corrected. I podcast "Talk of the Nation," too, not "All Things
Considered." That's a good one.

AP News? How long is that, usually? Is it much more than headlines?

7. Small, 3 minute easily digestible chunks...

...I listed to it and others on my way to work. NPR also has a nice 5 minute news cast.

8. Does the Spanish one really help?
I already know Spanish, but I'd like to learn something else, like Chinese. I'm wondering if a podcast would help or not.

9. It totally does. I've learned a lot from it....
Although I can't speak about podcasts for other languages, notes in Spanish works well for me. I'm fluent, but I still make some very small, rather silly mistakes. This podcast helps me fix those.

13. That might be a good one for me, then.
It's not just Beginning Spanish 101, from your description. I'm fluent (as a second language) but I still goof up some rudimentary grammar from time to time.

Is it anything like the book "1001 Pitfalls in Spanish"?

And it's called "Notes in Spanish"? Available on iTunes?

15. Totally.
Start with the Intermediate, and if that's too simple, then go on to advanced. Yes, "Notes in Spanish". They also have a website- www.notesinspanish.com.

4. Curling? As in Winter Olympic event, curling?
Wow. I never would have guessed there's be a whole podcast for that. Interesting!

6. yep
Up here in Canada it's the national sport and as an expat I've grown to love it as much (if not more) than the the big 5 sports (Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer). There's a huge World Curling Tour event this weekend before Christmas, and all the big guns (except my boy Randy Ferbey's rink) will be there:

5. I tend to listen to a lot of, er, "odd" subcultural podcasts
My favorite that could be considered mainstream is Savage Love. But I've been reading Dan Savage's column since I was too young to be reading it. In case you don't know, Dan Savage writes a hilariously raunchy sex advice column that can be found in your local alt-weekly paper. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, and I don't always agree with him, but he actually gives really good advice. His columns kind of served as my sex education because I sure wasn't getting it in my fundie home. The podcast is an outloud version of the column, and it's a hoot. http://www.thestranger.com/savage

I like Ask a Ninja, and Strongbad...but those are video podcast versions of the existing videos.

I listen to a couple of Pagan podcasts that are pretty cool. deó's Shadow is the best of them by far, IMO. He hosts it with his wife Mandy and they talk about a nice range of Paganism-related topics. He hasn't updated in a while, but the recent ones are interesting--he and Mandy went to Thailand over the summer to meditate with monks at a remote temple in the forest. I dunno what the link is but I found it on iTunes and got hooked. http://www.deos-shadow.com

Witch in the City is one I listen to because I'm friends with the host and she's a riot. This one definitely isn't for people who don't know anything about Paganism, because she basically spends the whole hour ranting about dumbass things in the community. I love her to pieces. 14. That's always one of the most popular podcasts.
I've never really been able to get into Click and Clack, though. I'm not sure why.

Maybe my mechanophobia has something to do with it.

16. I hate it because it is so phoney
If something is a scripted show, come out and say it is scripted. Don't pretend these callers come up with all these great lines all by themselves.

It is rehearsed as much as any sitcom.

12. The Ricky Gervais podcast was really funny.
...if you like British comedy. He's the creator of the original Office series from the BBC. I think it's listed under audiobooks now.

Great road trip material.
