5. I had a rot in college! She was the best dog! Her name was Sage.
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 10:09 PM by lovedems
I also had a chocolate lab named Shine. "Shine Ass Shine" was his full name.

Edit: I will never understand the bad reputation of a well raised rottweiler. Sage seriously wouldn't hurt a soul.

12. MrMatt & I prefer "real" names
our pets (together)

Bettina (cat), named for the academic dean of our alma mater
Nancy (cat), named for Nancy Sinatra ("boots" that are made for walking)
Angelique (cat), a variation of the name she had a the shelter
Stanley (cat), named for the cartoon character (by our six year old daughter)

We are both farm kids, so we had MANY quasi-pets - we feel we can only count those that are "actual" pets.

21. My dog is Zelda.
A friend had Molson, the Golden retriever.

But the best one is from my brother. When he first got married, he gave a dog to his wife. They named him Jack. After a few years they had a son, Nick. Nick & Jack were the best of friends, practically grew up together. Unfortunately, Jack had some problems with his kidneys and he died when Nick was about five.

For his sixth birthday, my brother asked Nick if it was ok if they got a puppy. Nick said ok, and they visited a Friend who's dog had just given birth. When they picked one from the litter, my brother asked Nick what he thought, and Nick said "Well, there's a chance that he'll be as good a dog as Jack."

So that's what they named him. Chance.

25. Best I've heard: Deeojee (DOG) for a dog and Seeaytee (CAT) for a cat
I had a friend with a doberman named Deeojee (they called her 'Doje' for short) and a different friend with a huge house kitty named Seeaytee...I thought that was hilarious...
I also have a friend with a miniature little skein of yarn on legs that she thinks is a dog; the teeny yipper is named 'Fang...'

26. Our dogs learned to spell
we could never say "frisbee".."bone"..."cookie"..."walk".. and a few others that escape me

We would spell them to avoid being stampeded by 3 labradors and a poodle mix..

It did not take them long to learn to spell.. The poodle would bring us the leash before we got to the letter "k"..:)

28. Of all the pets I've loved before...
Not too many, or at least not as many as some here... but here goes:

Arlene - Cat - longhaired grey and tan (lived to ~19 yrs.)
Jeffrey - Son of Arlene - Solid tan longhair (lived to 17 yrs.)
Maggie - Daughter of Arlene Black and tan longhair (who incidentally breathed her last this past Tuesday at 17 and is sorely missed  )

There was also:

Mr. Chips, my brothers' dog.
Tiger, my sisters' dog.
Scout, my sisters' cat
Ted, grey cat, son of Arlene who got adopted by friends
Christopher, solid black cat, same situation as Ted
RRRAaaah, the money-cat who lives next door, but always tries to come and visit. She told us that was her name.

I think that is all, in a very big nutshell.

33. I named my stepson's iguana Tastes Like Chicken
My favorite name for a cat was Muon - I was on kind of a physics kick then, so I had Quark, Fractal, Muon, and Strange. Muon is particularly apropos because of the sound - "mew-on." One cat that had the world's most irritating meow (and who liked to climb to your shoulder and do it in your ear) got named Anathema.
