Tool Rocks! The Pot...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2F_hGwD26g
Tool - The Pot

Tool Pot Lyrics

Who are you to wave your finger?
You must have been out your *head*
Eye hole deep in muddy waters
You practically raised the dead

Rob the grave to snow the cradle
Then burn the evidence down
Soapbox house of cards and glass so
Don't go tossin' your stones around

You must have been high

Foot in mouth and head up ass
So whatcha talkin' 'bout?
Difficult to dance 'round this one
'til you pull it out. boy,

You must have been so high

Steal, borrow, refer, save your shady inference
Kangaroo done hung the jury with the innocent

Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
(Musta) got lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle.

You must have been high!

Who are you to wave your finger?
So full of it
Eye balls deep in muddy waters
F**kin' hypocrite

Liar, lawyer, mirror, show me. What's the difference?
Kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent.

Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
(Musta) got lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle.

You must've been...

So who are you to wave your finger?
Who are you to wave your fatty fingers at me?
You must have been out your mind

Weepin' shades of indigo
Shed without a reason
Weepin' shades of indigo

Liar, lawyer - mirror, for you what's the difference?
Kangaroo be stoned. He's guilty as the government.

Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
(Musta) got lemon juice up in your eye
Now when you pissed all over my black kettle.

You must've been high!

Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Ganja? P-lease!
You must have been out your mind

Tickets are a little on the pricey side (mine was $80 after Ticketbastard's fees) but it is worth every penny.

46. I've been a Tool fan since AEnima came out.
I saw them once on the Lateralus tour - the last show of the tour in Long Beach. Then I saw them twice on the current tour - once at Staples Center and once at the Nokia Theater. All 3 times were simply fucking incredible. It's also a damn shame they work so slow - I'd love to see them put out another album in the next couple years.

17. So that's what he's singing...
I've heard that song a lot and the only line I ever deciphered is "you must've been high." I like the song, but as I read the lyrics my reaction is "huh?" Everyone here is talking about what great lyrics they are, but they make no sense whatsoever to me. What am I missing?

37. I'll take a stab at it.
First, I have no idea if I'm right or not, or even if there is a right answer. Good art requires the audience to bring part of the meaning. Anyway, here's my interpretation - it's about the hypocrisy of the "war on drugs." It's from the point of view of someone of my generation (X, which is where the band members fall, I think) or possibly younger calling out the Boomers-in-charge for going along with the propaganda and draconian punishments for drug users when they fucking know better and are just as guilty. "The pot" can then be either a reference to the drug, with the "the" being a kind of funny stab at people who aren't cool talking about it, or to the phrase "the pot calling the kettle black," which refers to the hypocrisy of one person pointing out another for something of which they themselves are guilty. Or, I could be completely wrong (though not high, I'm out).

Or, I could just be trying to start an intergenerational feud.

38. Thank you for taking your stab.
That's an interesting take on it. You could be right, I don't know; as I said, I could make no sense of it at all. I thank you for your effort in trying to help me understand the song. Of course, I'm not of the X generation--I'm a boomer--so that might contribute to my not being able to make sense of the lyrics. :D

39. No problem. Like I said, that's just my interpretation.
More importantly, I think they like to make people think. They certainly don't seem to suffer stupid people in some of their other lyrics. Maybe the right interpretation is simply the one you thought about.

40. I think you are right about this
"the pot calling the kettle black," which refers to the hypocrisy of one person pointing out another for something of which they themselves are guilty.

and you could be right about the war on drugs, it certainly has been a failure of the tune of 500 billion dollars and no reduction in the use of drugs at all.

but I don't know any band from the 70s that stretches the boundaries like Tool. I am in awe of Maynard James Keenan's songwriting skills and imagination. Thanks for posting this.
