I know a lot of you know Windows computers well, so some buying advice, please?
Mrs R's going to start her bookkeeping business after the first of the year, so I want to get her a Windows laptop for Christmas.

I know NOTHING about Windows computers/manufacturers, but I do have some considerations:

-Light weight is NOT a factor, since she won't be taking it on airplanes or such.

-It doesn't have to be all that powerful as far as processor speed, etc, because she'll essentially just be using it for QuickBooks.

-Good build quality IS a consideration, because she'll be carting it around to her customers' offices and back home.

-It should have a screen size of 15" or larger, but more important, it has to have a SHARP screen, because she'll be working with text and numbers.

-Given my choice, I'd just go out and buy here a $2500 Sony Vaio, but she'll shoot me if I spend more than $1,000.00

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

1. I can advise you to avoid Dell.
I've had issues with my laptop and their support is...sometimes less than helpful.

My lovely SO has a Toshiba that she likes a lot and has given her no trouble that I know of.

This one isn't too bad, and it's fairly inexpensive.

were one of the first to make Windows laptops way back when

Thanks.

3. I bought a Toshiba Satellite in January, and I LOVE it.
Came pre-loaded with Vista (had only been out for a few days when I got mine), and everything has worked beautifully from the get-go. No errors, no crashes, no trouble of any kind.

I'd heard great things about Toshiba before I bought mine, and I'm glad it's what I went with. And the complaints about Vista are, in my experience, vastly out of proportion. If it's loaded on a new system, you shouldn't have any trouble with it.

6. My vote for Toshiba too.
Gateways are cheap and effective, but Toshibas are far more effective.

9. I second this one!
This is what I have, and I love it!

I bought it online, and took it to Europe...

Works flawlessly!
