I'm supposed to go to a Christmas party in a town about
10 miles away, but I'm thinking of not going. It's REALLY foggy out, and I am not good in fog!

This party isn't church related, so I don't HAVE to go. It's for the kennel club I belong to. If I don't go, though, I'll feel guilty. I made a reservation, and almost all of their activities are on Wednesday nights, when I have choir and bible study, so I never make it to anything. I know there are some who think I shouldn't be a member (but I do pay dues). Tonight, we have choir rehearsal but no Bible Study, so I could go, though I'd get there a but late.

But it is WICKED foggy!!! And the road I'd take is right along the river, which means it'll be even foggier there.

So, please help to assuage my guilt--and/or tell me what to do.

Thanks!

Critters
if there's a reason to feel guilty, I'll find it!

1. I always figure, if there's a more than insignificant chance I'll die,
I don't drive and I don't feel guilty about it.

Leave it to other people have a hysteric fit about it.

I don't put my life at risk for silly things like work, movies, parties, or other such stuff.

3. Agreed. Nothing is that important in life, other than a life emergency of course!

4. Well, now we have a "freezing fog advisory", so I'm beginning to feel
justified in staying home.

Here's what the NWS says:

DENSE FREEZING FOG WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS...WITH VISIBILITIES GENERALLY REDUCED TO ONLY A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET IN THE DENSEST FOG. IN ADDITION...SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL CAUSE FOR SOME VERY MINOR ICE ACCUMULATION TO OCCUR ON MAINLY ELEVATED OBJECTS.

A FREEZING FOG ADVISORY MEANS VISIBILITIES WILL FREQUENTLY BE REDUCED TO LESS THAN ONE QUARTER MILE. IF DRIVING...SLOW DOWN... USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS...AND LEAVE PLENTY OF DISTANCE AHEAD OF YOU. ALSO...BE ALERT FOR FROST ON BRIDGE DECKS CAUSING SLIPPERY ROADS.

:scared:

5. Oh, come on - you've had CPE: Do not defend, do not explain, do not justify.

You don't need to justify why you didn't/don't go.

As for me, I'm always happy to say why I don't go when it's bad weather. And if they think I'm a sissy, then do be it - I'm comfortable with my dick, so I don't need to do stupid macho shit.

6. Yeah, this is exactly the kind of behavior that caught me more than my share
of shit in CPE. CPE was good for me. Now, no matter how bad things are, I just tell myself "I survived CPE--this is nothing!".

I'm not going, btw.

2. I don't know what advice to give.
:(

I'd go if I could. But that's me.

You have a very valid reason for not going. They should understand that.

If you choose not to go, please don't beat yourself up over it.

7. Talked to a woman who went to this party, and she nearly had an accident
in the fog. She lives in the country, and drives those roads all the time. But said she got disoriented in the fog and ran a stop sign. She knew the sign was at that corner, but didn't realize she was there yet. A pick-up truck crossed the intersection right behind her, would've hit her if she'd been a few seconds faster. She said lots of people didn't go, and she didn't enjoy it. She spent the whole party worrying about the drive home.

I think I made the right choice.
