You know you live in the country when ...
the next door neighbor's house burns down and you find out two weeks later.

Next.

3. Well, we live in a village now
but we lived on a "seasonal" road for three years; then we had MG Jr. and it became impractical to live nearly off the grid. No curve in the road at the old casa, but it was heavily treed and quite a walk down the driveway to get the mail and/or the newspaper each day. No telling what the amateur hunters were up to--couldn't be too careful, you know?

5. Bears, coyotes, etc.
A veritable zoo in that neighborhood. I never saw the bear, but DH did. He nearly shat his pants.

Funny thing, I never feared the lifelong hunters. They knew what they were doing when deer season came along. And they never hunted on posted land like ours. One guy knocked on the door shortly after we moved in to ask permission to hunt on our land, and I politely turned him down (we're tree-huggin' bambi-coddlin' hippie freaks).
But the amateurs who stumble into the woods with a cooler of cheap beer... :scared:

6. Exactly.
I understand the locals...although even they have gone bear crazy this season. I hate bear meat. It is greasy.

7. When the nearest pavement is almost 30 minutes away. When it
snows or even rains heavily, the mail doesn't get delivered. And even this deeply in the sticks, I get piped in water service!
