Just curious

1. Vegans consume NO animal products, no milk, eggs, etc.
Not even lard used to fry French fries, they would use vegetable oil though. Vegetarians do not eat meat, though they may eat eggs, drink milk, etc.

2. Vegetarians don't eat meat
But may eat milk and eggs. Vegans eat no animal-derived foods at all. Some even avoid honey, since they believe it exploits bees.

Most Hindus and many Buddhists are vegetarian, but not vegan. So are Seventh Day Adventists.

3. Vegans do not eat nor use anything made from animals.
Meat of any kind, dairy, eggs, honey, etc. This includes anything encased in or containing the pretty-named ingredients gelatin and carmine. We also don't wear fur, leather or silk.

A great number of us also don't use products from companies that sponsor any kind of animal testing, such as Proctor & Gamble.

Vegetarians don't eat the flesh of any animal, but may consume dairy, eggs, etc, and wear leather, etc.

5. Wouldn't that depend on the type of silk?
My sister is a weaver, and "raw" or "noil" silk is made from the discarded cocoons of silkworm moths. The caterpillar/moth is allowed to live out its natural life-span - which is actually pretty short. The adult moths don't even have mouths, since they mate and die shortly after emerging. But the noil silk is cruelty-free.

It's also a heck of a lot sturdier than the "silky" silk, and softens beautifully with repeated washing. I'm wearing a scarf my sister wove from the empty cocoons of her weird little pets.

6. To be honest, I've never heard of that.
While most vegans I know probably wouldn't on principle, I like the sound of that product.

I should get to Googling more info on that.

Thanks!

10. Unless you know a weaver
Like my sister who raises her own silk worms, your best bet is ahimsa peace silk. It's made in India, and they only use the discarded cocoons of wild moths. I have no idea what it costs, though it might be pricey. There's a $40 scarf on the PETA web site, which is comparable to the price of other silks.

Of course, if you're buying silk from China all bets are off - as is sadly true of too many Chinese products these days.

4. Which kind of vegetarian?
There are many different types depending on what they will or will not eat.
