This is what I found out today when I called to find out where it was.

When I FINALLY got to talk to a person instead of a recording... this is what I found out. It was sent on the 30th of November, but wait, why is it not there yet, let me check...wait on hold...I found out what happened, it looks as if it hasnt been produced yet...

The guy I talked to said he would take care of it and it would take another 10 days to 2 weeks...

I wish I was kidding, but you could not make this stuff up if you tried...

1. It's about a monthlong wait for anything at DPS right now

They are severely underfunded, just like most agencies in the state. You can thank Governor Pawlenty and his "no new taxes" pledge for the wait.

If you want to complain, call the governor's office.

2. I had to call on mine once; they said it was on its way from California
When I asked why Michigan drivers' licenses were manufactured in California, he couldn't answer me. I've been asking my state senator and representative regularly since then and nobody has a good answer.

With the way that Michigan's economy is struggling one would think they could find a place here to manufacture the licenses.

Good luck -- I hope yours arrives soon.

luckily for me, it is winter here so my opportunities to be pulled over for speeding are minimized...

and by default, so are the opportunities to explain to the cop what I am doing with a yellow piece of paper and an expired license...

edit: after reading that, I realized I should add that is IS legal for me to drive with my yellow receipt and an expired license.
