1. Mine kinda went backwards from how yours did...
First thing in the morning I went to the DMV for the THIRD time to try and get my NY license. I moved here at the beginning of November. I still haven't been able to get it.

And today was no exception. Here's the kicker: in order to continue to drive legally (not just something I wanted to do, something that I had to do. I moved up here to drive my grandpa to and from his dialysis 3 times a week. If I can't drive him, he dies.) , I had to renew my FL license. It expired 4 days after I moved here. So when I went in today with all the ID and birth certificate and all that other ridiculous crap they require you to have... I was told that I couldn't get a license because my FL drivers license is too recent. If I still had my EXPIRED one that would have worked. But I need proof that I've been driving for at least 6 months. And the only date on a FL license is when it was last issued and when it expires. No original issue date. And the Florida DMV won't fax that information over. I have to write them a LETTER giving my permission to release my information, and they will send a letter to the DMV here. No fax. No quick call. No computer records to check. I have to wait for the mail. During christmas time.

I was just about ready to commit homicide. I think the only thing that stopped me from doing so was the fact that there wasn't actually any one person to blame for this big honkin' mess.

10. Yeah... I just find it odd that in NY you need several forms of ID...
just to get an ID in the first place.

3. Wow. I can't believe they're still giving you a run-around.
:(

I hope you can get some kind of solution soon. If they would allow it, it seems like you could take the drivers test and get a new license faster.

6. It took me close to 3 months to get my California license
If I went into the whole thing, it would take 20 minutes just to type it but it involved calls to the Vermont DMV, the California DMV and several different insurance carriers. Every time I called any of those places, I spoke to a different person and so had to explain the whole thing over again. :banghead: And every time, I got a different answer. It was insane.

Oh, and I had to do it all from pay phones because I didn't have a phone where I lived nor did I have a cell phone as yet.

Good luck. :hi:

7. Yeah, so far I'm running into basically a miniature version of what you said.
Only I only had to use the pay phones a few times because I don't have a cel, and replace Vermont DMV with Vermont birth certificate place and California DMV with Florida DMV. :)

17. Major stupidity.
I try to defend FLA every time someone gives us a hard time, and then crap like this cames along. I hope it all works out.

You might try making a call to the FL DMV and get someone on the phone who's human and has a sympathetic ear. You might get better results.

26. I did.
And the only thing they were allowed to fax was a piece of paper with all the same information already on my liscense. No original liscense date, just the most recent renewal date.

And it cost me like 5 bucks in ATM fees and long distance phone calls on the nearest pay phone just to get that much.

11. Oh Thom, I'm sorry, dude...
I read your post yesterday while at work and just wanted to find something to hit for you. I may whine about my job, but it's nothing compared to the job you face just trying to get good care for yourself. :( You think if we started a letter-writing campaign to some philanthropists and charitable trusts, we might get anywhere? I'm willing to give it a shot for ya, dude.

24. I think I'm done trusting non-profits for a while.
I don't think there's much help there. It seems that many of them exist to raise funds to keep existing. I'm sure many people do get help, but I don't seem to be one of those people.

In the meantime, I'm plugging along. Please, you keep going to!

29. Gotcha.
Any celebrities who deal with RA and chronic pain? I'll pester them... Gah. I just wish there were something I could *do* instead of feeling so helpless. I can't imagine how it is for you. I mean, there's gotta be somebody out there who'd be willing to give you enough money to stay in an accessible place, take your meds, have some food. Is that so much to ask? :banghead:

I'll keep all crossables crossed that someone works some magic for you, and soon.

18. I have no idea
I could easily work 80 hours a week and still never get caught up. By June, I'll be keeping all the accounting records for 9 businesses with over 200 employees. And I'm always the last to know. :banghead:

"study guides" so they'll be ready for exams like 2 days after they get back!

Who makes these schedules?! They obviously don't have kids.

23. Well, sort of.
This day went something like - project almost done (4 days' work) and ready for peer review. First peer review makes a couple suggestions. Easy ones. I implement them, and now the fucking database won't load anymore. Recalling the changes doesn't fix that. I may have to rebuild, from scratch. Hence the :banghead:...

Ah well, it could be worse, at least this time I'd have fully ironed-out specs in front of me from the beginning!

How's life, MrR? :hi:
