Student Accused Of Killing Raccoon That Was Skinned, Eaten By Fraternity

If there is ever a draft I hope these frat boys are packed up and sent off.

ATHENS, Ga. -- A University of Georgia student turned himself in to authorities Thursday after a judge issued a warrant accusing him of killing a raccoon that was then skinned, burned and eaten by members of his fraternity.

Police said a fraternity brother of Zimmerman's skinned the animal, and another ate some of it after the meat was burned. Zimmerman is the only member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity charged because he is the one accused of killing the animal.

3. Eating any carnivore or omnivore
is extremely dangerous. SARS arose from just such an unnatural practice, as did ebola and AIDS.

As an aside; I rehabilite orphaned raccoon cubs. They are very sensitive and intelligent animals. I find this story quite disturbing.

13. I shot a racoon once
That my dog had torn up. It was bleeding and crippled. Broke my heart, was shaken for days afterwards. Killing something should never be taken lightly.

5. Rabies
you're likely to get rabies if you get in touch with fluids from a rabid animal. I have friends who drank milk from a goat they later discovered was rabid, and had to undergo rabies shots.

In 1962, my grandmother narrowly escaped death when a student in the fraternity across the street from her house shot at the window by which she was sitting "on a dare". Bullet missed her head by about an inch. Nothing was done about it, other than say "boys will be boys". Oh, I forgot. They did pay for a new window.

So you can understand why I'm a bit prejudiced against frat rats.

6. Are they endangered?
People in rural areas have been eating racoon for centuries.

How's it different from squirrel or rabbit or deer or cow or whatever?

9. hmm
Just read the article and I still dont see why they would charge this guy, this is pretty assinine.

As for the guy who ate the meat he is definately a darwin award waiting to happen if that thing was diseased.

18. If the raccoon was rabid...
then I don't see what the big deal is. Rabies causes suffering and madness for animals. If I had a debilitating disease that made me violent as well as contagious, please put me out of my misery.

However, if it turns out that the coon wasn't rabid, then maybe I could see the whole animal cruelty thing. The racoon was just being a raccoon and the frat boys were being, well... frat boys.

20. I had raccoon meat once.
My former band was playing at a wild game cook-off in downstate Illinois. Lemme tell ya, that shit was NASTY. Gamey-smelling and foul.

The elk chili kicked ass though.
