I think my baby kitty hates me and has ADHD and is psycho
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 10:53 PM by greenbriar
he will not let me pet him

all he wants to do is bite me and scratch me

today he batted my face and got my lip bleeding

I have raised kitties before

WHY does he hate me?

My daughter gave him to me for my birhtday

I really wanted a kitty, I want him to be playful, but I don't want him to be mean to me...

1. That's just the kitten's way of telling you that you should have gotten a puppy instead

17. You should get your kitty a puppy
Then the puppy will drive him crazy.

What goes around comes around.

I used to threaten my cat that I would buy a dog and train the dog to keep the cat in line. Then my cat would squint at me.

2. He doesn't hate you.
That's how kittens play. He'll settle down as he gets older. Meantime, give him lots of toys to play with, trim his claws if possible, and wait.

6. from a home with a gentle momma cat and 5 brothers and sisters
the first week he was really meek and loving

I got him toys we play with him and now ...

my right hand is all scratched up

I don't hit him, when he bites I put him down

when he gets in the christmas tree, I use a squirt bottle

I talk to him, love him as much as he will let me

18. You sure do have a fighter who looks just like Mr. Mickey's "nemesis"...
Note: My avatar was chosen because it looks identical to one of our cats. We acquired her 16 years ago. She originally belonged to my step-son. This cat would jump up on any hand that was above her head and tear the shit out of it. In her case, I believe she may have been traumatized, as her tail was lopped off. Your kitten may have other "issues" of which we can only guess. However....

Bottom line- our version of this kitten experience has developed into the MOST loving cat and is still a feisty, but wonderful cat, who continues to be full of life at 16.5 yrs. Sometimes the ones that want to tear the crap out of their environment are the most loyal cats later. She has personally identified with my husband (Mr. Mickey's Dad, I suppose, since Mr. Mickey is MY cat.) and constantly searches him out when she is not home. She appears to be very intelligent!

Hang in there, and try talking in (don't laugh at this advice) a "higher pitched tone", very gently. Does she appear "chatty"? If so, you will have wonderful "back and forth conversations".

True to the day, ours could bitch slap other cats who get in here way, but .... hey, we do that sometimes here, right?

5. Some kittehs have a feral streak. I have raised lotsa kittehs and there's always one every so often
who is more feral and really can't be settled into being a house pet. :(

7. what is feral?
there are times he really is sweet

sometimes we have to close him into the bathroom so he doesn't get outside while we bring groceries or stuff into the house

he cries and when I open the door to let him out, he purrs really loudly and lets me holdhim and love him

he also sleeps on our bed every night and is mostly calm all night once he settles down

8. Well in that case he doesn't sound feral (wild). He will probably settle down eventually. I have
had feral kittehs though who could never ever be handled. And to look at them they just _looked_ wild like a bobcat or something. It was the glint in their eyes and they way they held themselves, I guess. It seemed like there was one of those throwbacks in every litter or two, but then we suspected the fathers of those litters were wild critters that lived up at the dump. Maybe that accounted for the high ratio of wild babies we had?

9. We had a cat like that - kept it up til she died
only 18 years.
She was what is called a 'torbie' - some kind of multi-colored coat. The vet and many others would ask if she had a temper. She was like the Tasmanian devil. She really hated me. She seemed mostly wild, but would come home every night.

10. don't feel bad
i'm sorry he doesn't seem like the cat you wanted. he just sounds nuts. i hope he's just extra exuberant, happy to be alive, and like a golden retriever (i understand that they love deeply, have infinite joy and too much energy, and don't have too much brain).

good luck. :hi:

12. he's just being a rambunctious kitten, who feels safe ...
the first week when he was quieter he might have been trying to figure out his surroundings...
He might settle down - male cats, ESPECIALLY after they've been neutered (whenever the time is appropriate for him to be snipped - not sure how early vets are doing it these days), tend to really mellow out. And then there are some cats who have definite on/off switches - we have one of those. He's cool most of the time, but every once in a while reaches out to bite. He's old enough now, though, to not bite down; he just is saying "leave me alone!" a la Greta Garbo.

Give him some time to play/expend kitty energy/mellow out. He's young and hyper, and a compliment to you, he feels safe. He doesn't hate you.

25. good!
I was sad about him from the OP but this sounds nice! It sounds like he's just being an adolescent, sometimes they act that way a looong time.
We have a cat who's always had a problem being lovey and he never grew out of it. I feel sad for him, for how lonely he is.

20. when my cat bites, i move whatever he's biting into his face
he bites a finger, it goes further in his mouth, same with the arm, etc.

now when he wants to bite, he'll hesitate and lick instead. cute actually.

14. I have one like that, and I have always called him my "problem child"
When I first got him as a kitten, he wouldn't give me a minutes peace or let me put him down. He even slept on my head at night.

Now he hates to be held or touched by anyone. He comes to me when he wants attention. And he sleeps on my butt at night now. He is also very sensitive to stress in the house, and pisses on my bed when he senses a falling out.

When I was in a frequent Domestic Violence situation, his pissing the bed was always a tip to me that I was about to get a beating. And he was always right.

ever find yourself in a situation where that can happen again.

Stay safe, and have a good holiday.

27. You are not alone
my 3&1/2 month old kitten is a maniac. He bites and scratches the heck out of me.

I also think its a sign of happiness. They have lots of energy and want to play. Joaquin really likes to attack me and my female sheltie Crystal who he has grown very attached to in the past couple of weeks. He no longer hisses at her but instead jumps on her head and starts biting her. She loves it and plays with him. Its so cute. Then he sees his momma (me) and its go time with me. He's pretty subdued with his daddy.

I think he'll settle down over time but in the meantime I am cherishing his little kitten state. He's my little tiny bubble.
