Does Hannah Montana shoot fireworks out of her ass or something?
I needed to make a run to the grocery store this morning. I get there and the lot is nearly full. Think day before Thanksgiving full. I'm wondering what the deal is. I go inside and there is a huge line of people waiting for the service desk to open. Are people in this much of a rush to pay their utility bills? No, they're waiting in line for Hannah Montana tickets.

I know a little bit about her, but basically, she just sings and acts right? Nothing more special than that?

You can tell I don't have kids, can't you. :D

2. Yeah, I was chatting with someone recently and they mentioned
her. I had to go look her up to see what that was all about. Whatever happened to drugs? Why do they go nuts over stuff like that nowadays instead? Maybe the drugs were better.

3. My neighbor kid doesn't like Hannah Montana,
I have watched her sing and dance, didn't see anything special.

4. My lil nieces are crazy for her.
I watched a little bit while visiting them at Thanksgiving, but didn't see the effect you mentioned. But those may just be matinee performances...the late shows may be a whole different deal.

:)

5. My 9 year old daughter loves Hannah Montana
And I could not be more sorry. That girl just cannot sing! Good thing the tickets are so outrageously priced in our area because there's no way I would be able to sit through the torture of listening to Hannah Montana sing for an entire concert.

10. I have to disagree with you there.
As a musician and music teacher, I think she can absolutely sing. Does she have the polished chops of a well-seasoned professional? (MMM...well-seasoned chops...time for lunch!) No, of course not, but she can sing. Pretty good comic timing, too, I think.

13. My daughter would sure agree with you
If I ever get tickets for a concert, can I hire you to go with her? LOL I'm only kidding! I actually like Hannah Montana, the show, but her singing just doesn't do it for me. Even with the autotuner, some of those notes sound like they've been steamrolled. She's young and I'm sure she'll just get better with time and more processing...

6. This post is a sign that you're old
Actually the truth is that Hannah Montana is one of the very few kid-friendly entertainments out there. As a culture, we don't give much mainstream entertainment that isn't crude, violent, or sexually oriented. I'm not talking kid-oriented, or specifically targeted to the under 14 demographic. I mean Hollywood can't put out many general release movies that are smart and entertaining without sticking a lot of "fucks" and "shits" and tits in it. As a parent I have a terrible time finding something that's both quality and appropriate for my kid to see on TV or in movies or in popular music.

18. It doesn't seem very kid friendly to me...
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 03:24 PM by WCGreen
I watched a few times and it seemed like it was kids acting like adults, you know style consciouse, the right boy stuff...

I look at Hanna Montana as sort of a 21st century version of a minstrel show...

20. Wait, wait, wait...kids acting like adults?
Being style conscious? Wanting to date "the right boy"? Sounds exactly like kids their age. It's what I see every day when I teach.

21. I guess it is all pretty much the same as the beach blanket movies...
except the kids really are 14 instead of 30 trying to be 16...

I'm not at all sure how one defines *it* in this instance, but I submit the following as evidence:

This past week we had a shitload of snow and practically everything in town was shut down. Except of course the all-important computer repair business I work for. So one of our techs had to bring in his 2 year old son as he had no daycare. I was pretty well caught up so I volunteered to hang out with Connor to keep him from eating sticks of RAM and so forth. I took him up to my desk and started pulling up the usual kid sites I'm versed in, NickJr, PBS Kids etc. He just kinda looked at me blankly. So I ask his dad what he's into and he says "Oh, just pull up Hannah Montana". I go to YouTube and click on a video...you'd think I just electrocuted the child. He nearly leapt off my lap, clapping his hands and shrieking like a 15 yr old at the height of Beatlemania. Then he...mind you this *2* year old little boy...starts singing along and doing the dance moves and everything, completely oblivious to the fact that I was laughing (silently) so hard I nearly cried. :D

It was enlightening, to say the least.

EDIT: Oh snap, this is dolo.

19. Damn! Really?
Shit, I didn't see my first concert until I was 19 (which was Beck at the Greek Theater), and tickets to that show were only $45 a piece!

22. My 8 year old daughter adores her.
She played a concert in Nashville the day after Thanksgiving. Tickets sold out in 4 minutes! So, as you can imagine, I had to deal with a pretty disappointed child. I was not about to pay the $400-$1000 a ticket that they were going for on ebay.

For the most part her show is entertaining and her music is not too bad. There is a lot worse out there.
