So my hubby just called from the rest area on I-684 in NY

in Westchester County. He was driving under an overpass, and a chunk of ice broke off and shattered his windshield. :scared: He's okay, but said it scared the shit out if him. He's not easily scared - was a cop in Boston for 12 years. thank goodness for safety glass. I guess it shattered but didn't actually break through fully, except for a few shards on the passenger seat. Hit hard enough to knock the EZPass off the windshield.

Loving USAA insurance - they've arranged for someone to come to our house on Monday to replace it - no charge! :woohoo:

I'm just relieved he didn't get hurt. That would have really sucked.

when he called. Have USAA for all our insurance and financial programs. My dad was a career Army officer, so I'm eligible for almost all of their services. We've rarely had to file claims, but the few occasions have been quick, painless and with outstanding service. :patriot:

5. He says the worst of it was on the passenger side,

so he was okay to drive. I was half-way out the door to go get him, but he said no - it was not so bad that he couldn't drive. I didn't even think to ask if he called the police. Knowing his history in law enforcement, he probably did.

It's funny - he's been retired from the police dept for about 15 years, and people still peg him as a cop. His pharmacy is across the street from a great Irish Pub, frequented by many of the local LEOs, and they have accepted him as one of their own :) Not a bad thing, as they look out for the pharmacy quite well.

11. I wish - no, he manages it, but defintely

treats it as if he owns it! Learned that strategy in his early retail days with Caldor - a Target-like discounter, now out of business - that he worked for several years ago. They wanted their managers to run the business as if it were their own. Felt you got better results/profits that way.

One thing that's funny is that he does need to use his "cop" skills now and again, particularly with shoplifters or troublemakers. He can intimidate with nothing more than a look. And they seem to think he can back it up, because he is a big guy. They never seem to come back!

Mr. Gray used to work for a famous thrift store selling used cars. That required coplike skills.

Before he even said anything beyond "I'm at the rest area" I was asking him what was wrong. Hate those kinds of calls.

It was just a very windy day in late winter and I was heading back from White Plains. The tree limb ended up in the passenger seat.....
