2. From leavittobeaver.org (I couldn't believe it existed either)
4) What did Mr. Cleaver do for a living?

Again, the produces decided to keep this one a secret too. Ward works in downtown Mayfield. Ward’s main job seems to be writing a lot of reports. He has a secretary, and sometimes records into a dictating machine. Ward mentions the "the Thompson deal" and "the Miller audits". There is a branch office in Mexico City, and a main office in New York. Ward attends sales meeting and works with the company’s marketing department. Occasional, Ward travels to a company conference.

Some speculate Ward is was an Accountant. This would be a logical deduction, but certainly not foolproof.

15. Covert CIA OP
His project back then was called, "Embarass Canada" and was a success, though the results were not visible for two decades. As part of that project, Ward was working with three young Canadians who eventually became Rush.

19. Gotta love the vague-dad cliches of yesteryear
In the '50s, "Dad went off to work at the office with a briefcase and came home in time for dinner; that's all you need to know."

In the '60s it seemed they chose a profession, advertising, so dad could occasionally stress about possibly "losing the Smith account" (but he never did).

Pretty sure it had something to do with insurance.
On the other hand, Ozzie Nelson apparently had no means of support. He just hung around the house all day wearing a sweater.

25. At least he had a job - Ozzie Nelson had no known occupation
I think Ward sold insurance, if I recall. Ozzie Nelson must have lived off air, as I don't think we ever found out if he even went to work in the morning.

27. When the show was on radio Ozzie was what he really was a "bandleader"
when it made it transition to television Ozzie decided to leave it to the imagination of people what he did, "after all, the show was on weekends and so I didn't work on Saturday's."

29. It was a running joke at the time, on all the talk shows on which Ozzie Nelson appeared
Later, I remember Johnny Carson laughing about it when Ozzie appeared on his show. By the way, I remember watching the show on Thursdays. They had an all-family saccharine line-up on Thursdays with Ozzie & Harriet, Donna Reed, The Real McCoys and My Three Sons, all on ABC. Of course Ozzie and Harriet had a pretty long run so the day of airing may have changed over the years. I think he actually was a bandleader in real life. And in a way, the show was closely related to his real life, as his entire family was in it, including in-laws. But I don't think he ever mentioned his occupation in the show or even went anywhere to perform it.
