Now that LotR and HotG are being made?

(dedicated to bmbmd for the original idea)

My pick?

ELRIC

(Brust's Vlad series comes in a close, close second)

I would say "Valis", but that was optioned last week.

1. I always thought "Stranger in a Strange Land" would make a wonderful movie
When I was in my sci-fi period, I loved Heinlein. And I always thought "SIASL" should have been made into a movie.

8. Yes, definitely
Although a miniseries might work better - you would have to cut a lot out of it to make it into a movie.

No!
I love the images I have in my head of the book. To make it into a movie would ruin everything.

Very cool...
Elric would be a great movie, as would Rama.
My pick would be Ubik-and I've heard rumors that they might be working on it right now.
BTW what's HotG stand for?

21. Rumour
SCOOP 11: "And, in the WATCHMEN, Sigourney Weaver as the Silk Spectre. Daniel Craig as Rorschach."

Some months back there were rumors that casting ideas for the WATCHMEN movie were being tossed around, including the intriguing idea of casting John Cusack as The Nite Owl. This is the first rumor we've heard mentioning either Weaver or Craig specifically.

Our scooper added that the role Weaver would play would be the older version of Silk Spectre (the younger Spectre is her daughter and wife of Dr. Manhattan.) Craig played Alex West in the first TOMB RAIDER film and also had roles in ROAD TO PERDITION, ELIZABETH and THE ICE HOUSE.

optioned the rights to Elric of Melinbone' about a year ago. I thought that the success of LOTR would have made more fantasy movies a shoe-in. It would have to be super-twisted though. I remember the books that way.

Also, why is Hollywood so in love with Phillip K. Dick anyway? The last real good interp of his books was "Blade Runner." "Paycheck" blew, and "Minority Report" was alright at best.

MY vote: RINGWORLD, by Larry Niven. Eye candy for days. Or even Lucifer's Hammer. Good comet smashing into earth/aftermath story. Would be alot better than "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact" combined

edit: HotG----> Hammer of the Gods? The Led Zeppelin thang?

17. Harlan Ellison's original script for "I, Robot" :)
(Kephra, don't you mean "HG2tG"?)

I'd love to see a mini- or anthology series made from Cordwainer Smith's Instrumentality stories. As a chronological episodic television show, it would kick ass and take names.

Douglas Coupland's _Girlfriend In A Coma_ would be a great movie, and so would Stephen King's Dark Tower series, except I think it'd have to be done as a series of movies, instead of just one.

I'd love to see another revival of The Twilight Zone. Proposed episodes would be:

"The Last Demon," Isaac Bashevis Singer
"1408," Stephen King
"John Jones' Dollar," Harry Stephens Keeler, albeit updated and slightly rewritten from its (original?) publication date in 1955...
"Nackles," Donald E. Westlake/Harlan Ellison (script)
"Polly Plus," Randall Garrett
"Souls," Joanna Russ (this would also make a great movie)
"Rivering," Elizabeth Engstrom
"Roimata," Daphne DeJong
"Maneki Neko," Bruce Sterling

I also want to get my screenplay produced (it's dark fantasy) -- it's called "A Dark Dream Upon Her Head." :) My friend the screenwriter who read the first draft said he hoped I'd remember him in my Oscar acceptance speech...

18. Good listings...
David Weber's 'Honor Harrington' series would make a good series of movies...
On Basilisk Station
Honor of the Queen
The Short, Victorous War
Field of Dishonor
Flag in Exile
Honor Among Enemies
In Enemy Hands
Echoes of Honor
Ashes of Victory
War of Honor

Also his 'Oath of Swords' and 'The War God's Own' would be good.

Asimov's Robot books would make good movies; his 'Tales of the Black Widowers' excellent television.

Goodness, there is just too many...
Lots of classic SF would make great movies now that the technology has caught up.

How about a Dungeons and Dragons movie that looks like the game plays instead of what some scriptwriter who's never seen the game takes from the title?

How about Nodwick? (www.nodwick.com)
Sure, it's a cartoon, but it's funny...

How about some of Harry Harrison's alternate histories? Or maybe the Stainless Steel Rat (good for TV too!)

Yes, I realize that most of you probably haven't heard of it, but it's brilliant. SF/F fans should check it out.

I wouldn't mind seeing a "Deathstalker" (Simon Green) movie, either.

At over 800 pages long, it would be way too long for a regular movie. But it would bode well as a miniseries on HBO, similar to Band of Brothers.

35. I love that series so much...
...that I would likely be disappointed no matter what if it was made into a movie. All in all I would rather it not be made. The artwork through much of the series is fantastic and I would prefer that those versions remain the "definitive" ones.

Stardust and Neverwhere would make great movies though.
