it's in the mid-teens in northern colorado and the nws is saying there's a 100 percent chance of snow tonight.

i just got home and into my jammies and i still can't feel my toes x( looks like a good night to curl up in my robe and a mug of hot chocolate

hope you guys are keeping warm :hi:

1. Fanning myself, actually.
Thinking the next hot flash will have me outside (23 degrees here) in my tank top.

Wish I could siphon off some heat and bottle it for the rest of you!

14. Snow is gone here. I think it would be more comfy to roll down my front walk
and MELT the snow (when it is around) instead of shoveling. But I may get dizzy(er)

19. There has been an amazing number of crews from across the country...
hundreds of trucks, guys working 16 hours a day.

The path of the worst of it followed a line from OKC to Joplin, 30 miles each side. Missed me by 8 miles.

but we've had some bad ones here, and they suck

And the icicles were like missiles falling off the trees. They even had to close a street where a TV tower was sending icicle bombs careening down onto cars.

I have heard all kinds of stories about people being killed and injured by these icicles but I don't know if they are urban legends or really true. All I know is that I don't go anywhere near that tower this time of year! :scared:

21. Yep, same here.
Back when I was younger, I was the polar opposite. Now, I can't stand the heat. There is no cooling down for me once I get hot. It actually makes me feel dizzy and nauseated when I overheat, which I seem to be doing a lot lately.

I would love some snow right about now. Too bad you can't really send it online. It's the thought that counts though. :pals:

37. It's a stove with a hopper for kernels
Kernels are augered in a few at a time depending on how high you want the heat. Corn has a lot of calories so it burns very hot. Has a blower to circulate the heat, plus we run the blower on the furnace.
A million BTU of corn now costs @$6 to $7. A million BTU of natural gas is @$30 last I heard and LP is even higher. I will pay @$800 for heat this year. Corn keeps us pretty comfy down to @10 degrees then we use the wood stove and if it get colder we kick in the gas furnace.
Here is some info - http://burncorn.cas.psu.edu/
Since we got ours they have been improved dramatically and they now have furnace add ons. Just be sure you can get clean, dry corn.

We also have a small fire in the fire place and the Mr. is stretched out on the couch covered up reading The Amber Spyglass. I've never seen him not be able to put a book down before, but His Dark Materials trilogy seems to be different.

So, we're staying warm. We'll see about tomorrow. :scared:

42. I've been kind of waiting for him to finish the last book.
I want to reread them, and I can't very well do that if he's got the last book. He's usually a savorer of books taking his time. I just consume books like the best ice cream ever made. Now that he's into it and moving along. I can restart the series. :P

You can come over any time you want. I even have marshmallows. :)

44. I love my loft space.
The space upstairs was never finished so there were never walls to deal with.

I love my housemates but it is nice to have my own space, worth all the work and money.

I like colder temps in the winter, they do not so having my own space was important.

I am still not totally finished working on the loft but about 80 percent there.

The rest of the work will get finished by and by.

49. I had some help with the heavy work but I am doing the rest by myself.
I am thinking about building a upper space so I have two levels, now I have everything on the floor level.

The roof is high enough, so now I just need to save up the rest of the money.

The bathroom was a little expensive but worth it, we have two bathrooms downstairs but with 5 people a third bathroom was important.

I like my private space, and in the summer it is very windy up here with the windows open.

I have a little kitchen up here, nothing fancy.

Looking forward to using the little wood burning stove this weekend.
