I Was JUST NOW Interviewed By The F.B.I... Right At My Front Door
BANG-BANG-BANG! OPEN UP! FBI! We've got you surrounded!

No... actually it was just one guy who wanted to ask me some questions about my next door neighbor.

My neighbor is seeking a security clearance for his federal job and had alerted me late last year that someone may call on me to ask some questions.

He asked the standard "how long have you know him" and "have you ever seen or heard any disturbances/police action" type of questions. He wanted to know if we socialized or if we were just friendly neighbors.

I'm guessing that some of his questions were to make certain that my neighbor hadn't set up a "ghost" address or a "mail drop" address, he asked me how often I saw him come home and leave. Did he pick up his mail? Mow his own lawn? Etc etc.

It took all of 4 minutes... and he finished the interview by asking if he had my permission to use my name in the final report (or whatever it is they call it). Interesting. I guess that means if someone has something negative to say about someone, then they can do so anonymously and the subject of the interview will never know who provided bad info.

I've done my civic duty for the day.

7. Bummer
That story sounded like the beginning of a cheesy porno movie.

Oh well...maybe the next batch of Mormon missionaries will be more your thing. ;-)

11. You took the words out of my mouth!
I have this picture of this Brad Pitt like agent coming to the door. Allen, wearing a bathrobe answers the door drying off his hair.

They're eyes meet. Agent Pitt rips off Allen's bathrobe.

(cue bad 80's porn music)

4. Oh, man, you could have had SOME FUN!
...I'd be so tempted to be a 'sitcom neighbour' in a situation like that.

Hee hee, 'does he mow his lawn'. That's part of security clearence? HA HA...because if he mows a desert, he's probably a terra'ist.

5. My mom lives next door to an FBI agent.
So she gives an interview like that about once a year.

Cool, isn't it?

8. This is how they get a foot in your door
Same thing happened to me back in the 60s. Agent shows up claiming to need info on someone, and proceeds to find out more about you than the supposed subject. Early morning visits are most common when they are attempting to find out about you.
No need to be sized for a tin-foil hat. Just remember your rights and protect the privacy of your friends and neighbors.
Unless any government agent has documentation for asking you any questions regarding the behavior of anyone you should ask them to return when they can produce such.
