Minneapolis DUers
So I'm leaving Thursday to go help marry off my own former best man... one of the brightest progressives I've ever known, and a dear, dear friend.

I want to buy him and the future missus dinner over the weekend -- what's the hip schmancy place in Minneapolis? Is there one?

5. He's a bit of a "foodie"
I think he's over italian fare, and could care less about seared ahi. Loves funky ethnic stuff, and really anyone who's good with flavors. Price is no issue -- at least this weekend -- although he's not a jacket-and-tie sort of guy.

6. then one treat might be
to start at 29th and Nicollett and drive slowly north, letting him find something that piques his interest.

From 29th to 12th, Nicollett is known as "eat street", and there is, literally, *every* kind of ethnic restaurant available. Greek, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and German are just a few. Ichiban's anchors the north end (at 12th and Nicollett) with some pretty amazing choices for teppanyaki.

Except for Ichiban's, Kristos and The Black Forest, few of them are haute cuisine but he will have a huge range of choices.

There's a great Cambodian restaurant on University at Randolph (I think. Might be closer to downtown -- have to check on that). Lindy's steak house in Arden Hills is a hoot and a half; if you go on a weekend, be prepared to stand in line. If he likes decent French cooking and the best creme brule in town, go to Pierre's at 50th and Penn in south Minneapolis.

Zander Café 523 Selby has a truly great wine list, but the food is average (in taste) and expensive. That stretch of Selby has a number of restaurants.

My personal favorite for Mexican is Pepito's, 48th and Chicago, Minneapolis.

None of the above are shirt-and-tie places (shirt, yes; tie, no). If you go upscale from these, (Morton's, Chez Collette) it would be better to dress up a little.

Hope this helps!

4. Forepaugh’s Restaraunt
It is one of the fanciest places I have ever been to, but I don't recall if the food was any good. I guess that it must not have made an impression on me. It is located in an old Victorian mansion. There are some who believe it is haunted by Mr. Forepaugh and Molly, his lover and servant who became pregnant. When Mrs. Forepaugh caught them, Mr. called off the affair. Molly hung herself on the third floor of the mansion. Mr. Forepaugh went into a deep depression and eventually shot himself at the nearby railroad tracks. It is said that Mr. Forepaugh and Molly now haunt the mansion. People have claimed to see Molly near the area where she hanged herself and others have seen Mr. Forepaugh in the dining room area.
