scratched DVD
my season 7 disk 5 of the West Wing is scratched all to hell.

Anything I can do about it, short of replacing the entire season?

1. Have you tried another drive, like the one in your computer?

Maybe there is better error correction.

3. that's the one I've been playing it in
It's really scratched. You can see it prettly plainly.

I thought maybe there was some sort of spray that helped or something.

2. Toothpaste.. The white stuff, not the gel.
It is abrasive enough to take out some scratches. The data isn't actually written on the surface of the disk. You can remove some and still be OK.

4. Toothpaste?
Honest, found this link:
http://lifehacker.com/software/cds/macgyver-tip-fix-scratched-cds-with-toothpaste-155741.php
and a video demo link here:
http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/how-to-repair-scratched-cddvd/

That said, I think there are polishing tools/agents you can buy to repair/renew the scratched surface, such as SkipDr. :
http://www.digitalinnovations.com/

I just use a simple hand-turning cleaning box with some of the cleaning agent that came with it (I think it's denatured alcohol in it)
Got mine at Target.
