We get a new Babylon 5 "project" (Confirmed! Woo Hoo!)
New B5 Project! JMS posted some info about a new B5 project a few days ago:

It's taken longer than hoped for to be able to talk about this, because it's taken longer than hoped for to go through all the machinations of the deal. Depending on the nature of a given deal, it can take a few weeks to a couple, three months to actually cut the deal and finalize the language in terms everybody can agree with. We only literally finished the deal last week.

Writing on B5:TMoS is complete, and as soon as the powers that be sign off on everything, it can be turned in and we can start moving. At that point, I can say more about this.

Figure another couple of weeks.

It's driving some people up the walls trying to figure out just what the initials "B5:TMoS" mean. I'm betting that the "S" is "Shadows".

1. T.he M.ovement o.f S.hadows perhaps?
I think I heard about this some time ago. SciFi Channel had their annual preview promos in December/January and I think that's where I caught the title. Don't quote me, though.

And bringing back a B5 project would work for me. Followed of course by a regime change right here at home.

:D

"It was the end of the Earth year 2260, and the war had paused, suddenly and unexpectedly.
All around us, it was as if the universe were holding its breath . . . waiting.
All of life can be broken down into moments of transition or moments of revelation. This had the feeling of both.
G'Quon wrote, There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way.
The war we fight is not against powers and principalities – it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death
of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender.
The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation.
No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."
G'kar

Bring it on!!

Sonia

6. The Babylon 5 mantra:

"Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out. Babylon Control out. Civilians. Just kidding about the God part -- no offense."

11. Just insert Velma...
where "Ivanova" is in that quote and that's my motto.

I'm also quite fond of "Trust Ivanova. Trust yourself. Anybody else...shoot 'em."

5. Nightwatch
B5 was an amazing show.

When it was running, I thought that the coup, "Night Watch", INN propaganda, etc. were a bit over the top. Now it's all too familiar.

One odd bit - Jerry Doyle, who played Babylon 5's security chief Michael Garibaldi ran for Congress as a Repulican in 2000 (California) and considered trying again in Florida (Until Mark Foley dropped his US Senate bid and will run to retain that seat).

8. I'm not sure whether to be excited about this or not.
Babylon 5 was certainly an innovative show, and the acting was very well done, but there are very few episodes I'd ever watch a second time.

Part of my problem with the show is directed at its creator. From what I've seen of his non-professional writing (mostly Usenet postings responding to B5 fans), JMS comes across as a smug, self-righteous prick who claims that the whole world is against him but nothing is his fault. I have no patience for such an attitude, and no matter how much I agree with his views (and for the most part, I do) or admire his writing talents (ditto), it taints everything he does in my eyes. It's basically the same reason I stopped watching Bill Maher.

And on top of all that, I'm sure we all remember the last time JMS tried a B5 spinoff. Maybe if he's managed to break free from WB, this new show won't turn out so bad, but I'm not holding my breath.

That said, I'll definitely give this show the benefit of the doubt, at least for the first couple of episodes. Let's see if it can last until premiere night before getting canceled this time.

9. Well, there's one thing I have to correct in the above
It's not really sure what type of new "project" we're going to see. It could be a movie, series, book, or comic. It's not clear from this and past statements yet just what it would be. He does have the time to do a TV series, now that Jeremiah was yanked out from under him. The only thing on his plate right now is his comic work.

I don't really agree with your opinion about the man personally...but to each their own. ;-)

I thought Crusade, after a rough start, was getting to quite interesting. Rangers? I didn't much care of the first B5 movie either. JMS seems to work the best when he has room to develop a story over a long time (see his current comic work "Supreme Power" as an example). Also, I believe he took up those projects too soon after doing B5 the series. Maybe the time away and the current political situation has inspired him?

But with almost all of my sci-fi shows gone, and the best thing on the horizon looking to be Battlestar Galactica (which didn't thrill me), I'm more than happy to see a return to the old universe, in whatever form it takes.
