Question for anyone who is 30 years old, +/- a year or two
I'm writing a fictional short story for a magazine submission. The main character is 30 years old, and it takes place in the present, which means he was born in 1974.

If you're somewhere between 28-32 years old now:

What were your favorite TV shows as a kid? (By "kid" I mean approximately between the ages of 5 and 12.)

6. I second the Dukes
The Incredible Hulk was also a favorite of mine. I think both of those shows were on the same channel on the same night one after the other.

Born in 72. When I was little, I loved Sesame Street, Zoom, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, The Muppet Show.

When I was a little older I liked Little House on the Prairie, Mork and Mindy, Lavern and Shirley to name a few off the top of my head.

My favorite cartoons were always the Warner Bros. ones, esp. Daffy Duck, even though those were originally before my time. I think they enjoyed a surge in popularity in the 70's.

11. Uh oh: I'm 30, and I've got quite a list here!
(I'm also cursed with a brother 3 years younger, so I watched some of these even though i was too old for them at the time!)

TV "Dramas" (1 hour shows)

Dukes of Hazzard
Magnum PI
The Fall Guy
Greatest American Hero
Vegas
Mike Hammer
A-Team
Knight Rider
Stingray (damn, what's with all the 1980's car shows???)

the folks used to let us watch Dallas with them, too.

Kid Shows (late 70's-early 80's)
Land of the Lost
HR Puffenstuff
321 Contact (especially w/ the Bloodhound Gang and the silent live-action Spider-Man)
Thundarr the Barbarian (and other Hanna-Barbara cartoons)
Siegfried the Seamonster (often shown in conjunction w/ Land of the Lost, etc.)
then, later...
Transformers
Voltron
League of Justice
GI Joe
Heathcliff
and for Saturday mornings nothing better than: that the Voyagers, a corny little show in which a kid and an inept "time-fixer" guy travelled through time solving problems. The guy was played by John Eric Hexum (??) who later accidently killed himself by play firing a blank round into his temple while the star of another 80's TV show, "Cover Up."
Don't forget the popularity of He-Man in 1984!

Goddamn, homey. I could go on....

I loved some of the evening game shows. The two that really stand out were Tic Tac Dough and The Joker's Wild. I'd also sometimes watch Dallas or St. Elsewhere with my mom.

27. I'm just short of 31...
Outside of cartoons and sports and other kids stuff, the first thing I remember is Hill Street Blues. Also remember watching LA Law and St. Elsewhere when I was a preteen.

As for comedy, Cheers and Night Court stick out.

Man that show is silly, but it's weirdly hypnotic while waiting for the caffeine to take effect, plus Emmy Jo is a doll.
