Our sorrow for the day
I know it's not huge in the grand scheme of things, but it hurts none the less.

My son went to bring the trash bin back from the road (we have a long driveway) and he had the saddest look on his face when he came in. He said there was a frog on the road and it's back legs were squished, but it was still alive. I think my husband probably drove over it when he left for work this morning. My son is 12 and so tender hearted, I thought he was going to cry. I asked him what he wanted me to do and he said he wanted me to go put it out of it's misery. I walked the driveway looking for it and found this tiny frog, maybe 2 or 3 inches long. I was prepared to end it's suffering and I was almost about to cry myself, but it wasn't moving anymore. I dug a little hole by the driveway and put him in it.

We are animal people, cats, dogs, hamsters, fish, a bird and even frogs.

I'm sorry for such a downer, but I just had to let it out. I worry about the world my son is growing up in, when his heart gets hurt over a tiny frog.

1. I was just like your son growing up
Now i'm in grad school in conservation biology -- what we have done to the other animals on the planet (and each other!) still hurts my heart every day. But i wouldn't trade it for being someone who traipses through life only concerned about herself -- your son is a good soul.

3. I think he will probably follow a similar path
He already talks about being a vet.

Thanks for the

4. I wanted to go to vet school
all the way up partway through college. Then i got involved in a research project and discovered how much i loved that... i still think i could have been happy as a vet. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders. :)

2. I'm tender hearted, too
Your son will be alright. He will grow up to be a compassionate man and the world needs all of those it can get.

5. Thank You
I just hate that he has to see so much suffering in the world, I know he feels it on a personal level. And I don't have the answers for him.

6. Similar happening to me....
a few weeks ago, only it was a squirrel. Same thing though...I am 49 years old and it made me cry.

Sounds like you have a lovely son.

7. He is!
He's my own personal amazing contribution to the betterment of our world. :D

I don't want to give the impression that's he weak. He's as willing as anyone to get rough and tumble, but he's also the only kid I know that at times gets teary eyed watching animal planet. Strong and tender, what a wonderful combination! :D

8. Any boy (or man) that can cry over
something like that is far from weak. Quite the opposite in fact. Men can be strong and sensitive at the same time.

I'm happy you are proud of him...you should be! :D
