I was checking my e-mail after my last post, and guess what I found: An e-mail informing me I'd been billed for a year's renewal of the subscription I bought last December, at $39.99. I stopped using McAfee months ago when I found Grisoft's free AVG.
Turns out, according to their customer service website: "All paid subscription services are automatically enrolled in the McAfee Always On Protection program, which includes automatic renewal in your account. This feature ensures your virus protection is not interrupted. Without the auto-renewal feature, you would be unprotected as soon as your license expires."
Translation: "We've set this up to scam the living fuck out of people." It would have been very easy to miss it, and have 40 bucks lost on something I don't even use anymore. Hell, if I'd changed my e-mail address since then, I'd never have known. And they don't even have 24-hour phone support. I have to e-mail them.
