You gotta see this whacked-out family...
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 06:38 PM by northwest
Original post credits to Kellanved, who originally posted this article and pic on another Lounge thread. But it didn't get any serious responses, and when I read this, I laughed and cried at the same time. I think there needs to be more response to this, so I created a new thread for this unbelieveable pic and story.

I mean LOOK AT THEM!!! They belong on UglyPeople.com!!! Also, if you read the article, you'll see they're members of the Christian Taliban. These are definitely people whom I could NEVER possibly be acquainted with.

1. the little boy is cute.. must be adopted.
God help these small minded people. How can they call themselves Christians and support a man who is responsible for over 10,000 deaths?????

doesn't make sense.

4. No, it has certainly never made sense to this
Christian how ANY Christians could even consider supporting him, and for so many, many reasons! It just makes me gag when I hear that from "alleged" Christians!

6. Quote from the dumb ass husband
"Gay men do not live for a long time. They have a lot of disease... It's a moral issue, but also a health issue," says Jim, unconcerned that in the secular world, his views reek of homophobia.

Just once, just once, I'd like to knock the living shit out of one of these ignorant sacks of shit.

and don't you know beauty is in the heart. I can see you rolling your eyes but it isn't easy when you're not pretty and no one wants you on their team or go out with you. Even someone beautiful has ugly days and even a bad photo taken.

I'd say the asshole has one ugly heart.

So the people that are "misinformed" like him that protested at Matt Sheppard's funeral with signs like "Matt in Hell" and "AIDS Kills Fags" are just poor lost souls, correct?

Bullshit.

8. Your views of them are as taliban thinking too.
So what do you hate about them more, their Christianity or their support of bush*? Your form of taliban thinking is more offensive to me than their views of Christianity and support of bush*. Its unfortunate it has become so acceptable to ridicule Christianity on DU considering there are so many Christians in the Democratic Party.

9. Speaking as a Christian,
myself, I can honestly say that it's not Christianity itself that is ridiculed on DU, but the "religious right", wingnut, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, judgmental, sanctimonious, theocratic, mean-spirited, to-hell-with-the-less-fortunate types who are NOT Christians, who want to establish a theocratic state and impose their beliefs on everyone else, etc. THAT is what they're ridiculing. I have always felt very welcome here as a Christian, and there are many Christians on DU.

every time there's one that even relates to christianity you pop up accusing us all of "hating" christians or "discriminating" against them.

How is anyone here displaying "taliban thinking" unlike the nutjobs in this article no-one on this board wants people or practices to be "wiped out" - a fairly Taliban-y and religious right type thing to do

No-one has said they have a problem with Christianity - even the atheists always point out that they have no problem with people believing whatever they want. What they may have a problem with is the forcing of religious ideas on those who subscribe to different spiritual beliefs - what they may have a problem with is the assumption that one particular strain of christianity is more valid or worthy than another view of christianity, or Islam, or Buddhism, or paganism or a belief in fairies and dragons.

What they may have a problem with is identifying an unelected war criminal as Christian.

Seriously you might want to come up with some evidence before calling us all Taliban-like (we've given instances of the religious rights taliban like behaviour) or "anti-christian". Some people may take offense.

13. I feel sorry for the kids
They will likely live with a skewed view of the world through an over the top christian point of view. Religion is a wonderful thing, if taken in moderation.

I don't think they are near as ugly on the outside as they are within. The daughter sort of reminds me of a young Chelsea Clinton and I think Chelsea is an attractive young lady today.

Remember the Rev. Jim Jones was once a fine religous leader.

20. People may be people, but these people
and their ilk are attempting to force their own beliefs and practices down everyone else's throats, and are demanding that their beliefs and principles be codified into law for EVERYONE to follow, regardless of what, if any, religion they may follow. THAT is dictatorial theocracy, which, as a Christian, I can honestly say is very much against Christian doctrine, and I will not tolerate these people attempting to turn this country into a dictatorial theocratic state, which is what they'd love.

But not every evangelical in Georgia is rooting for the Bush-Cheney ticket. Many Baptist churches remain in the Democratic fold, especially within the African-American community. "

Something tells me that if they were black, from Detroit yet still evangelicals, they wouldn't be out suck Dubya's dick.

23. The attitude of those attacking this family makes me want to vomit.
Aren't the LaBarrs allowed to think what they want, worship as they please, lobby their leaders to do what they think is right? Big fucking deal that they would see an America totally abhorrent to most of us here -- it's not going to happen; we won't let it. Big fucking deal that "they're freaks" -- who among us is NOT a freak to someone else on the planet?!

Are we all f-ing hypocrites? We blast these people for their beliefs and for blasting our beliefs while they do the exact same thing to us. Let up. Jesus Christ.

I would love to meet this family. I want to go to Atlanta and have a meal with them, chat up their kids about school, soccer & pets; tell Jim & Karen about what it's like being who I am in the kind of country that they think is right. I doubt I'd change their minds but that wouldn't be my goal. Their attitudes can become actions that could hurt people, and with one-on-one contact with the people they'd prefer to keep at arm's length, small changes can happen.

Flame away. I really don't give a shit today.

PS Yes, the son looks like he's adopted. Do you think -- *gasp* -- the LaBarrs may've put their beliefs on abortion into action by adopting an "unwanted" baby? Nah... that kinda thing doesn't happen... not even to my anti-choice neighbors, Butch & Liz, who have three adopted children....

29. Agreed...incredibly immature
to hate anybody for their beliefs by attacking the way they look. Well, you know what? They look like a happy family and for that they should be praised.

The last time I heard people being made fun of spitefully for their looks was in High School. You all need to grow the fuck up.

27. As an Ugly person, I can assure you...
I am NOT for bush!

I have even failed the "Plant Test". This is where you are brought before a potted plant with a burlap bag over your head. The bag is removed, and if the plant attempts to leave the pot, you are issued a "to go out at night only" permit.

I have a, "to out only on moonless nights" permit. Makes it rough, but I'm still not for bush!
