The Hell with Janet Jackson, What's Going to Happen to Kid Rock?
If you haven't heard about Breastgate yet, let me go get a crowbar to move that rock you've been under since Saturday night.

Okay, let's see...Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake sing a bad song during the Super Bowl halftime show. Justin sings "I'm gonna get you naked by the end of this song." He then does so. All of a sudden there's a federal investigation, every right-wing talk show is decrying the liberal civilization that would allow such trash on the air, every CBS station could be fined $22,000 for showing it...it's gettin' stupid, folks.

That's what's pissing off America. This is what should be: White Trash "rock star" Kid Rock took an American flag, cut a slit in it and wore it like a poncho during his segment of the Super Bowl halftime show. Then he threw the flag into the crowd. And the only people who are bitching about it are the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the left wing.

Do the words "flag desecration" mean anything to these idiots? Read the Flag Code--it clearly states that the flag shall not be used as part of a garment. One hundred percent of it is "part," right? The American Right is supposed to love the flag. One of their musicians, Charlie Daniels, wrote a song called "It's Not a Rag, It's a Flag"--apparently no one told Kid Rock this because he treated the flag like a rag.

Debate centers on when they decided to do the bra-ripping stunt; Kid Rock undoubtedly went to rehearsal with his little disrespectful poncho. Why didn't someone tell him "go get one of those red, white and blue leather jackets"? Or to bring an undamaged flag on a pole and wave it around while singing his rotten song?

After two years of its continual bombardment, I have become thoroughly disgusted with people like Kid Rock who display their patriotism by going to Wal-Mart, spending $9.95 on a Chinese-made flag, sticking it on their car, driving around with it until it frays completely off, then doing absolutely nothing else. If you won't vote, give blood, write a letter to the editor or serve your country, take the damn flag down.

2. He wasn't trying to be offensive
Ya, maybe he shouldn't have worn a slit american flag, but I don't think he was purposefully trying to be offensive.

7. The point is, he was offensive
Ignorance of flag protocols is no excuse, just as ignorance of the law is no excuse.

But what do you expect from a flag waving, jingolistic spewing Repug like Kid Rock?

11. where did you ever
hear Kid Rock say he was a republican. The only people I've heard him support are the troops, not El Presidente or the repubs.

If you have a link showing where Kid Rock said he was a repub, post it, if not, then quit calling him a repub

12. Kid Rock is a major fund raiser for the Republican party
He is the chief sponsor for Coors beer products. Coors uses their profits to fund various far right wing groups. Kid Rock = flag desecrating Republican. Call him out.

13. Kid Rock - Rightwing Shitbag
http://www.vh1.com/artists/news/1436947/09222000/kid_rock.jhtml

And while stopping short of endorsing Bush, raunchy rap/rocker Kid Rock said on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards that he prefers the Republican nominee to the current resident of the White House. "I like Clinton; I like Bush better, though."

8. wasn't purposely trying to offend?
He wasn't purposely trying to offend? Then what is he doing calling himself an entertainer if he can't think it through and control his message?

You'd never catch the real rock pros doing that. If they want to offend, they offend, and they make a clear point.

What was KR's point exactly? Did he make one? Any freshman composition student knows that the first thing needed are to know who your audience is and what your specific message is. In my book, Kid Rock is a lucky amature and he gets an F.

What was the message?

I challenge anyone to critique KR's performance and tell me what he intended as an artist.

10. Desecration of the flag is
desecration of the flag. If Conservatives do not want anyone to protest using the flag they should at least follow their principles.

14. And Pickles wasn't trying to kill her boyfriend.
It happened. No two ways about it.

He took an American flag, cut a hole in it and stuck it over his empty head. Didn't he think a few guys who fought for that flag might get a bit upset?

Man, don't fuck with the VFW.

16. "He wasn't trying to be offensive" BUT
people killed in accidents are just as dead as those killed intentionally.

Whether it was intended or not, it's still disloyal and disgraceful. Disloyal to whom? Every veteran who has served this country for starters.

17. I'll have to agree
I thought he looked stupid. However, I did see one brave soul during the anthem who had an upside-down flag. Kid Rock is just trash.

4. Nothing will happen to Kid Rock...nothing
He is an Imperial Stooge. Therefore, imune for ciriticsm by the Corproate TV Pravda that floats inhe scummy wake of the Party-Loyal Bushevik Sub-Media.

Of course, it is ironic that the Left Wing actually cares about flag issues which the Busheviks use as a cynical ploy to keep their Propagandized Automatons in line the way Hitler used the Jewish Question.

But then, irony has little meaning in an Orwellian Empire like Amerika.

6. The worst part is....
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 04:59 PM by Tim4319
...as tight as security was suppose to have been, a man was able go hop down out of the stands and streak across the field. Now, if this man would have had some C4 strapped to him, it would have been a huge disaster, in a stadium with some 70 to 80,000 people in it. I think, instead of focusing on Janet's breast, focus on the security aspect, especially in these days of "Homeland Security". It seems as though security actually dropped the ball on this issue. But, this is not getting no where as much coverage as the Janet issue.

9. Yes, that bothered me way more than the breast.
From this week's column that wasn't:

"Then we moved to the rap segment of the program, and Kid Rock came bounding out wearing the American flag as a poncho. Doesn't anyone else see a problem with 'honoring' the flag by sweating into it? Do people really feel that Kid Rock's pit stains ennoble this inspiring symbol of American freedom? Is the idea that he's showing his respect for the flag by enriching it with his precious bodily fluids? In any case, we were all worried, as the jets of flame leaped higher behind him, that the poncho would catch fire. We could see the headlines: "KID ROCK SUPER BOWL TRAGEDY FUELS PUSH FOR FLAG-BURNING AMENDMENT.""

Yeesh,

The Plaid Adder

15. It's the same old media saw - sex sells
The Kid Rock/flag incident disturbed me far more than JJ's saggy boob. What disturbs me more is the media complacency about the desecration of Old Glory.
