Miami Restaurant Suggestions Anyone?!

My hubby and I are traveling to Miami from NC next weekend. Our traveling companions are his boss and the boss's wife. The boss suggested I be the one to find a restaurant and make reservations for us all for Friday night. I have never been to Miami and am clueless. I have always wanted to go to South Beach and wondered about a nice place there to eat. Any suggetions are welcome! :)

3. If you've got bucks - it's expensive

make reservations because the waits are long.

Shorty's in Kendall (at the far south end of the metrorail, right by the station) has great Barbecue and a fun, casual atmosphere. The Mai Kai in Ft Lauderdale has great pan-Asian food with a fun, kitschy polynesian performance (a personal fave) also pricey - get reservations.

Kon Chau on Bird road has very authentic Chinese and good dim sum.

The Seafood House in N. Bay Village has nice seafood, a great view, and is very reasonable.

Overall, Miami is NOT the best restaurant town, though.

I remember that from when I was little, driving down Dixie Highway.

16. Absolutely, catzies, I chowed at Shorty's 4 weeks ago

Same sign, same great taste, same everything.

Plus they have Shorty's discount coupons in the Neighbor's section of the Miami Herald, virtually half price on chicken or rib plates and beef or pork sandwiches.

At Shorty's, at least one corn on the cob is an absolute must!

I knew Joe's and Wolfie's would be the popular nominations in this thread, but Miamians I meet across the country are rightfully more enthusiastic about Shorty's.

He felt it would be very hard to get reservations for because something is going on in Miami next weekend. I like the sound of the Seafood house. I will check it out. Thanks :)

6. Olivers Bistro is great, and it isn't expensive(compared to similar places

I'm a college student who lives in Coral Gables (right outside of Miami).

I mostly know places that aren't super expensive.

So, start with Olivers Bistro on West Avenue

Also, Big Pink on Collins Ave. . They have huge portions of delicious food, particularly spicy food, that you actually know what it is (it's American food, not completly foriegn to most Americans etc)

17. A sleeper: The Pasta Factory on 8th Street

Very good with extremely reasonable prices, including free seconds on pasta dishes. The garlic bread is excellent, along with the little opening salad.

My sister lives in Orlando, but when she returns to Miami to visit our parents her only must is a visit to The Pasta Factory.

Snagged a RB away from Pitt and also a last minute LB from Pennsylvania. I've been on the Cane message boards all night. The Noles and Gators are whining. We're listed as anywhere from the 3rd to 5th best class, consensus behind only USC and LSU.

Did you hear how Willie teased as he announced? He started off wearing a Miami jersey, then ripped it off to show an FSU one. When he asked his friends how that looked, they said he was much better as a 'Cane so he put the Miami jersey back on!

The LB from Pennsylvania, Bryant, did the same thing, yanking off 3 other jerseys (Ohio St, Pitt, one other) before revealing Miami underneath.

Awesome, two obnoxious new Canes!!!

Gainesville's problem is a comparative lack of farmer girls. Willie doesn't grab them.

19. There is a place on Miami Beach called The Forge.

I don't know if it is still there. But I used to eat there frequently when I lived in South Florida. It is continental cuisine and excellent.
