There are no coincidences. I'm convinced.
I went to visit my sister in OK and on the way back, I was seated next to a woman who was pleasant but upset. We started talking and she was on her way to see her sister and celebrate her late mother's birthday.

(To preface, my nephew was a senior in HS and had missed a Presidential full-ride scholarship at the University (in their town) by one point. My sister and her family didn't have the money to send him to college.)

Now, back to the woman on the plane. She asked what brought me to (their town). I told her family. She said she lived there and had all her life. She worked at the University (their town). She was the assistant to the Provost.

Long story short, she told us to have my nephew call her and she set up a meeting with the Provost. After several meetings and interviews, he was given a 4 year, full scholarship.

I don't believe that was a coincidence.

So what's your story??

:)

1. Why was she upset?
That's a cool story and I'm happy for your nephew. Yeah, I don't have any stories offhand but I've been on the receiving end of serendipidy before. :hi:

and the mother's birthday was coming up. She was flying north to meet her sister and celebrate her mom's memory.

2. Wow!! I love stories like that.
I've had similar things (though not with such a wonderful payoff as that!) happen in my life, too.

I think there's something in the collective unconscious that compels people to come together in weird and synchronistic ways.

3. well...
I applied for several grad schools, was accepted to 4 of them. (amazing considering my GRE scores and GPA ) anyway

I happened to go to Little Rock, and asked about assistance, they just happened to have a stipend with tuition waiver.

I had no idea really other than loans to finance school

so it turned out that my loan profile was WAY less than it would have been, I went to school in the Little Rock of Bill Clinton, which had a great and profound influence on my political beliefs and actions.

So, now I don't believe much in coincidence. I just "happened" to ask the right person and she helped me get signed up for the stipend and I went to grad school.

I can't imagine how nice it must have been to be in the Little Rock of Bill Clinton. :)

5. My dear lizziegrace!
Oh, I love your story!

I don't have anything nearly as interesting as yours...

However: Yesterday, while I was at the beach photographing those ginormous waves, I happened to be standing next to a lady with her two grandchildren.

She was also taking pictures. I saw her flash go off, and I spoke to her. I mentioned that this wouldn't help her pictures since it's only effective for a few feet.

She explained that she wasn't the photo buff in the family; her husband was. I said, you can set the camera this way and I showed her.

Then I asked her what brand it was.......and it was identical to mine! A Nikon D50...

My little coincidence...

She was very happy to learn a new technique...
