Anyone live in or near Oxnard/Ventura County CA?
I have been offered a job at a new facility my company is building there (Oxnard), and I was wondering how you feel about the area, i.e love/hate, cost of living, housing, etc.

1. Don't live there but love the area
I think there is very affordable housing up there. I know Catzies is up there. Lots of agriculture, close to the coast..a stone's throw away from Santa Barbara and LA.

Where will you be coming from? Are you already in California?

We're coastal, cheaper than both LA to the south and Santa Barbara to the north. But cost of living is still pretty high here. Median houses are over $400k I think by now, and gas is almost $2 a gallon.

We're still a predominantly agricultural area and we made a concerted effort not to become another Orange County with local initiatives preserving our greenbelts and limiting growth.

What do I love? The fact that it's Southern California with all its attendant glories.

What do I hate? The fact that it's 60% Republican and rising and we have one of the dumbest GOP congressmen ever. x(

5. Right now I am in Maryland
The company wants me there by May 4th. My main concern is finding affordable housing.

I visited there for a few hours back in July when I was in San Diego visiting my sister. It seems like a fairly laid back place.

Are there areas I should avoid (housing-wise)? I don't need a fancy new home, but I also don't want to live in a run-down house (like the one I've lived in for the last 10 years).

I will more than likely come out the first week in March to go house hunting. Maybe we can meet up or something, get a tour?

7. Wow what a coincidence! My mom's in Maryland. Small world.
You are correct in that affordable housing will be your biggest concern. Will you be buying or renting?

I'd be very happy to be welcome wagon and tour guide. PM me with any other questions anytime. :)

4. I've been to Ventura on business - one of our customers makes
Starbuck's Frappuccino there. It's a nice area, even the oil fields are scenic and pretty. I wish I had more time to explore the area...

6. Lived in Santa Barbara for some time when I went to school
The Ventura/Oxnard area is cool, but I am more familar with the Santa Barbara area just north of Ventura which is way cool.
