Any Trophies or Awards On Display In Your Home?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 01:26 PM by arwalden
Are they YOURS? Or do they belong to someone else in the family?

I've got an old golf trophy packed up somewhere in the garage. (The only other trophy I own isn't sports related. It's an imitation Academy Award--also in storage.)

-- Allen

(Edit: Broader category... not just sports.)

1. We-ee-ee-llll,
It's not really a sports trophy. It's the Commandant's Award from the NCO Academy I attended in the Army. It's an infantryman leading a charge up a hill. It's cool.

2. Yes - 3 on display.
1 - 3rd place in my agency's golf tournament, 2001.
2 - 1st place in a island-wide bowling tournament when I was 11 (we lived in Hawai'i)
3 - 1st place in a softball league 1996.

They really just gather dust - I should stick 'em in a box.

3. Dad had lots
For skeet shooting and canoeing. Took them all with him when he moved back to Spain, of course. Mom would polish them (along with other metal trinkets we had, which were many) about once every two months or so.

5. I have lots
I played competitive sports for most of my childhood and have lots of trophies for basketball in particular. I have trophies and medals from the Elk's Lodge and Knight's of Colombus free throw shooting contests and from winning the local YMCA girls basketball league.

I also was a serious musician. I have trophies and certificates and medals from piano competitions on display, including my bronze and silver medals from an international competition I was in.

34. I've held
an Oscar and an Emmy.

What a thrill!

My ex's, ex had his ex's Oscar and we went over to their condo to paint and I saw IT! I didn't let go of it all day. A few days later, we went over to their house for a holiday get together and I had spent the WHOLE day as an extra on the film "Patty Hearst" and they brought Oscar out and set it at my place at the table. I was one happy camper.

The Emmy was won by won by the brother of my dear friend Micheal Richman who died in 2002. His brother was a writer for "Fraiser" and at the get together after the funeral at Jeffery's house, I asked Jeff "Can I just hold it for a minute?". Jeff said "of course, honey. Michael used to tell me what a kick he got out of you being so star struck".

Lemme tell ya, them mutha's is heaveeeeeeeeey!

25. It's a gard game
Every year my family has a Bridge Tournament complete w/ trophies and a lot of food and alcohol.

At this event we also play a version of "Solitaire" called "Pounce". It's called Pounce because you don't play alone. Instead, when you put your Aces up, they are fair game for everyone to play on (and everyone Pounces on them).

You need a deck of cards for each player. Shuffle the deck you have and then when everyone is ready, each player hands their deck off to the player on their right.

When you get the shuffled deck, you count out 13 cards and turn it over so that the cards in this pile are face up (this is called your "pounce pile).

Then lay out 4 other cards, side-by-side to the right of this "pounce pile". You use those 4 cards to play the black-on-red-on-black that you would typically play in Solitaire, using the cards in your hand 3 at a time (taking the top only--of course once you use the top card then there's another card on "top" and you can use that one as well).

Aces go up to the center of the table and are fair game.

The "pounce pile" can also be used to play on the other cards in front of you, and also can be used to build on the aces in the center of the table.

When your pounce pile is empty, you win.

22. 13 Pool Trophies......

1991 first place - Abraham League - Team - Pour House

1992 first place - Valley League - Team - Ajay's - Captain of team, also got MVP for the league.

1993 first place - Valley League - Team Ajay's - Captain of team, also got MVP again.

1994 first place 8-ball state tournament qualifier, ICMOA (Illinois Coin Machine Operators
Association) event. I qualified out of RJ's pool hall, then played in the Illinois state tournament in
Springfield with 225 players and I finished 15th. Won $550 for that 15th place finish.

1995 first place division Champions - Shooters Pool League - Team - Last Hurrah

1997 first place - APA 9-ball League - Team - Bill & Marys - 6 handicap

1998 first place - APA 9-ball League - Team - Bill & Marys - 6 handicap

1999 first place - Abraham League - Team - Teddys

1999 MVP - Abraham League - Team - Teddys - played 5 games a week for 14 weeks,
that's 70 games total. I won 65 games out of 70, it even says 65 wins on the MVP trophy.

2000 first place - Abraham League - team - Teddys - Played 14 weeks, 5 games a week, one
singles game each week. Went 14-0 in the singles games and got a special undefeated trophy,
to this day I am the only person to ever do it.

2002 first place - Bill & Marys in house league - Also got MVP trophy and a $25 bonus for it.

I was a 6 handicap, the highest it goes is an 8, but almost no leagues have any 8 handicaps. Most
leagues only have a few 7 handicaps.

The trophy I am most proud of is the 14-0 trophy, nobody had ever went undefeated before I did
it, and nobody has done it since either. It's almost impossible to go 14-0, but I did it. I have also
won 20 or 30 other local pool tournaments that did not give out a trophy, just money.

Today I rarely play pool because of my back problems, I am lucky to be able to play a few games
once or twice a month now. Even when I do, my back is sore for a couple days after.

38. You Can't Just Leave It At THAT... More Details Please!
I've always thought it would be fun to buy one of the ubiquitous trophies that I see at the Thrift Store... then have a new engraved plaque put on it with MY name. Then try to convince my friends that I'm a champion in all sorts of sports.

I wonder if they would believe it when they saw my name on the ladies figure skating trophy? Hmmm.

26. On my stuffed crow...
I have three Army Achievement Medals (one for fixing a generator in a driving rainstorm and getting communications back up, one for organizing a battalion change of command ceremony in one day after someone else screwed it up, and one I don't remember what it was for), an Army of Occupation Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a Humanitarian Service Medal. I also earned the Army Commendation Medal but I just have the certificate and ribbon because someone forgot to order the device itself.

My honorable discharge is framed and sits above our marriage certificate.

On another wall is my Divided City Scroll and my East of the Elbe Scroll. You got those for serving honorably in the City of Berlin during the occupation.

I have a couple of plaques from units I'd departed before I went to Goodfellow; one is from the 101st Airborne, the other from the 501st MI Brigade.

In a box I have my Field Station Berlin certification coin and my silver and gold Berlin Brigade Triad coins.

28. Yes, one, first place in a photo contest (the photo inside)
for this photo of Petey:

Okay, it wasn't that big a deal. It was a humane society fundraiser at their annual "dog walk" thingy. There were three or four photo categories. Petey won in "best action shot." One voted for one's favorite picture by dropping money in the slot below one's selection.

Okay, it's not on display. It's a ribbon, and I use it for a bookmark.

I just wanted to show off the picture. ;)

nomination. It's actually kind of lame (OK, really lame in concept, but pretty to look at).A movie I worked on was nominated for Best picture, and recieved best comedy from the Golden Globes. So the studio gave all of us with a fairly large hand in the thing a large gold coin set in acrylic, with the nomination on one side and the Golden Globe on the other (we lost Best Picture to "Silence of the lambs"..but by only 30 votes)!

What film did you work on?

I went to the Oscar display last year and saw all the Oscars they had on display. It was so cool. It was amazing to see the shape some of the awards were in. Some of the people have had them re-dipped and some of them look kind of haggard.

Hale Berry's Oscar was there too. I'm suprised she let go of it long enough to let it be on display.

59. It was the first animated film
to be nominated; "Beauty and the Beast" (yeah, I know-loads of DUers HATE Disney almost as much as WalMart). It caused so much of a controversy that the Academy had to give animation it's own catagory after that.(Bette Midler in particular was bitching up a storm about it in the media-and she was under contract with the studio at the time)!

We did win a fair number of Oscars in other catagories, though. I think our Producer Don Hahn has some of them at home.

60. Just the one...
3rd place in a go-karting competition a few years back.

I'm not a terribly competitive person, I guess.

61. The "Shrine" is still up
Even though my son went off to college almost three years ago, his "Shrine" is still up in the living room:

12 All-Conference Awards
3 All-State Awards
6 MVP Awards (3 track - 3 Cross Country)
Pics of track races he was in
Two pics of State Track Awards Ceremonies
Team Pictures from each year of school
A Special made Board with 102 medals for track events
1 special made display for the medal he received from the School district for being a National Merit Award Finalist.

When he's out of College and settled down, we'll give all of it to him but I can't even think about taking it down now.
