I am so confused about the Janet Jackson revealing...
no nipple was shown... so why is it a big deal?

Lil' Kim had the exact same thing for the MTV music awards 2 years ago.

1. Janet's was a piercing, btw. Plenty of nipple shown, fwiw.

There are clear pics out there on the net, if you care to search a bit.

Apparently the plan was to tear off the outer black layer and leave a lacy red bra, but Justin got 'em both.

3. It was a piercing with a nipple shield
you could only see the nipple in the pictures on the Internet. Watching it live you didn't see her nipple because it happened so fast and they cut away from it.

6. technically...
the only people who "saw" the boobie were the photographers...the camera angle was long shot, and Janet covered herself pretty quickly...so no one in the stadium saw it, and people at home only saw it if they were trying to look at just the right time.

I've seen two or three shots of Janet with her exposed self. They're the ones who "saw" it. Of course, that means the internet has now seen it, but Janet is generating some controversy.

Someone else pointed out that she sang (sung?) an excerpt about social strife in "Rhythm Nation":

Join voices in protest
To social injustice
A generation full of courage
Come forth with me

7. Face it clothing does not rip off like that, unless they are made to do it
It is like the movie clothing when they have fights. Or chairs etc. They are made to fall apart.
