Puddle of blood with cat in it is not a way to start the week
I should have posted this earlier, but was too bummed about it...

You guys know I have a lot of cats. We came into this house with four, then brought in a pregnant stray...next thing you know we have a whole shitload of cats.

Unfortunately, the pregnant stray had a brain aneuryism, and all of her kittens and grandkittens have one too. (After we lost the first one, we learned from the vet that they're fine until it bursts, and then they just drop dead on the spot. We just feed 'em, keep 'em away from tomcats and don't shake 'em around and they're fine.)

Yesterday morning I went downstairs to feed the cats and it happened...my long-haired manx-striped female looked up, meowed once, dropped like a stone and within a couple of minutes a good-size pool of blood had come out her nose. No suffering there...one second she was alive and well, the next she was dead as a doornail.

Life sucks some days. That was one of them.

1. Sucks...
My one and only cat seems to be taking a long, slow, painful route.

No fun either way.

Mike

2. OMG that SUCKS!!!

:grouphug:

on the plus side I guess there isn't much suffering, but I would hate to have to deal with that...

sometimes pets are too much for me, I hug mine and think about "that day" and it's an awful feeling..

:( :( :( :(

13. Worse: we've lost five that way
The mother cat (who never had a name, just "Mama Cat"), the father of the cat who died Monday (named Pinky), his gay brother (Dale), the cat who died Monday (Dickless Darrell, so called because we thought she was a tom for a week) and her Siamese brother King Richard the 43rd (yes, a Siamese cat and a long-tailed Manx were born in the same litter--the fun part about mixed cats is you never know what will come out) all died the same way. Pinky and Gay Dale had a brother we called Tommy (who was a deaf, dumb and blind boy when we got him) who died of liver failure.

Having said all that, we do have three cats from that line that are doing very well indeed. Pinky, Dale and Tommy's sister Nina is still alive, and Darrell and Dicky's sisters Geddy and Sophia are both healthy and huge. They're bigger than Kenny, who's huge.

7. aww
I'm so sorry.

But I wish all my cats would go so quickly and painlessly. Again, so sorry for your loss.

8. I'm sorry
I lost a dog rapidly, probably due to throat cancer. It's a kick to the gut to lose a friend like that.

long-haired manx - she must have been quite unique. You are a very kind person.
