Hey Microsoft Word, you fucker...
when I instructed you to "insert page number," the appropriate response was not to NOT insert the page number(s).

I know it's real hard work, inserting page numbers and stuff, but guess what? That's your fucking job.

Fuck you, Microsoft Word. Eff-the-ucking YOU.

The word processing gods don't want me to EVER finish my stupid, wretched paper.

:banghead:

So, am I coming over tonight?

3. You can come over
if you want to witness the death of a monitor and/or keyboard by way of hammer, baseball bat, or bloody, angry fists.

2. I think I yelled the same thing at Open Office a few days ago.
Goes to show, MicroShite or open source, they all suck when you need them to work properly and quickly.

It's a labor saving device. I keep telling myself that. It's a labor saving device. :nuke:

7. This is the problem:
I have a report which requires numbering in this fashion:

-NO numbering on the first two pages.
-the third-fifth pages need to be iii-v
-the rest of the document needs to be numbered 1-23

I put in section breaks, but even if I can get the roman and numerical numbering right, section one (which should have NO page numbering) keeps numbering itself. If I delete those numbers, ALL the numbering disappears.

I need to "break" the sections' "connections" somehow, but Microsoft Word seems to think I just innately *know* how to do that.

GAHHHHHHH!

10. If you're submitting it as a hardcopy...
Can you break it into 3 separate docs and number them individually?

19. i did that and turned the final thing into PDF when I got really stumped
it sucked...took longer to do the page numbering and footnotes than it did to produce significant portions of the content in my report.

12. Insert the section breaks before the page numbers. Then, when you insert the
page numbers, press the Format... button and select the 'Start at' option rather than 'continue from previous section'.

13. Like this:

Copy the first two pages, then delete them from the original document. Paste the copied pages into a separate document. Don't number them. Print.

Copy pages 3-5, then delete them from the original document. Paste the copied pages into a separate document Number them iii-v. Print.

Number the remaining pages 1... (whatever). Print.

Assemble all of the above printed pages into the final document.

I can never figure out how to combine numbering styles in my writing program either, but that's (above) how I've managed to complete documents with different numbering in the past.

Good luck!

:hi:

6. I have it on good authority
that when Microshaft first "wrote" the Word "software" and for every "upgrade" since, the "software engineers" were selected by gathering every last Microshaft employee, including the janitors, in Safeco Field, whereupon Bill Gates asked them (via Jumbotron), "Okay, who among you REALLY FUCKING DESPISE people who work in word processing?"
