I am supposed to pay a monthly amount year round and they keep tank full. I have been abusing that by letting them fill once, locking barrel and leaving the dogs out :P
Then I pay off the balance in payments and stop paying. Oops.. every fall I start over. I guess I'll try the normal people way this go around :)
The last few years it has been around $700 for fill so approx $1000 a year.
This year.. $800 for fill. I'm guessing the $300 to be $325 so approx $1125 a year.
On the "how much heat does a gallon of fuel generate" question, I have no clue. To convert to natural gas would be crazy at this point in the game though. Hec, Im thinking electric may be the way to go in the future.
with electric resistance back-up 2 years ago. So far I figure it has saved $1600 in heating costs. You could add a heat pump to your oil furnace for less money and save substantially on your heating bill. I see you're in NC, if you went to a heat pump your back-up heat would rarely if ever run in your climate. Another plus most of our electicity in this area is produced from local coal instead of imported oil.
