Some of you may remember the post from a couple of days ago about the dog I found and was attempting to rescue.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=7179532&mesg_id=7179532

Well, they finally sprung her (yes, her. Don't count on a veterinary nurse to make an accurate gender assessment based on one fleeting look at a dog's hindquarters, apparently. Not a neutered male, rather an un-neutered female. But not for long!) from the shelter yesterday afternoon. My husband and I went to pick her up and we stopped at Petco and bought everything in the store, I think, heh. Then we brought her home and snapped some really bad pictures, which are the best we still have because she never stops moving.

Before her bath:

Before her bath, devil dog, but you can see her coloring better here:

After. Doesn't she look like a Molly, and also a muppet?

We think she's not more than a year old and still has a LOT of puppy in her. :) The shelter thinks she's a wire-haired terrier/pointer mix, and that seems about right, what do you think? She seems to be housebroken and will sit on command (for treats, mostly), but badly needs to be leash-trained. Obedience classes starting next week. I'll also be putting up the "Found Dog" flyers on Monday.

In about an hour, I go to talk to our landlord. We still haven't introduced Molly to the cats, but I'm going down to get a really big crate for her, so we can control that meeting more easily. So those are the final two hurdles - are we allowed to keep her and will she refrain from eating the cats? WISH US LUCK!!!

8. OMG, those eyes!
The ones on the video, not the still pics. No wonder you couldn't leave her behind.

She looks like a real sweetie. Take her with you to meet the landlord: those eyes are irresistible.

10. Thanks for update, pics and video!
Agree with vet on the mix. Those feet/legs look more hunter than terrier so pointer added to terrier seems about right.

Hope all goes well with landlord and cats. Make sure all the fur kids get lots of personal hugs during the coming weeks.

She IS a keeper!

20. Thanks, everyone! (UPDATE of sorts)
It was so nice to get all the encouragement here at DU. :D

We got the go-ahead from the landlord - he's raising the rent a little, but it's totally doable and they're not doing it until January, to give us a month to find her owners.

I bought Molly her crate today, and she's going in and out of it no problem! Curling up in there whenever I'm in the kitchen, for which she gets lots of praise and a few treats. :) We haven't had the big test yet - what she will do when she's in there and a cat approaches. But so far, so good! She's already learned "sit" and "stay" (I think she might be the most brilliant dog in the world, actually - my husband says I might be SLIGHTLY biased, heh) and she needs to work on "heel" (she pulls hard on the leash) and dealing with other dogs (showing signs of fear agression). We are taking her to dog training classes (positive behavioral reinforcement, NO choke chains or violence) starting next week!

21. Out of curiosity, how big is she?
She has the colorings of a border collie. If I were to guess I'd say either wire-haired fox terrier or jack russell (due to the funky little tail) mixed with border collie. But that's just a guess. In the rescue group I worked with everything was lab/chow mix because those are the only breeds the people could think of...

22. She's so very...medium. Heh.
It's very hard to describe her size, because she's just exactly medium. She's bigger than a beagle, smaller than a lab. Probably weighs about 30 pounds. Hang on, let me get a tape measure...

Okay, she's about 33 inches from nose to end of back (where the tail begins) and about 22 inches high. Those measurements are approximate, because she's currently lying on the floor sleeping on her side and I was trying to maneuver around her without disturbing her. :) Her coloring is funny - I think it is pointer, but I should look up some border collies and see what they look like. I think she's too wiry and big to be part jack russel, but fox terrier, I'm not familiar with. Maybe that! Thanks for all the info!! And thanks for working with a rescue group - you're a wonderful person.

24. Keep Us Updated
I am going through the same thing here, introducing new cat to cat eating dogs. One of my dogs, a little terrier, is far to hyper to meet the cat yet. The smell of the cat had in a frenzy the first 2 days. He has calmed down a bit and is getting some much needed obdience training at the same time. Hope yours goes smoother.

25. NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Not MOLLY!!!!
Molly was the name of a former neighbor's dog — one of those utterly useless toy poodles that yip yip yip yip yip at every damned thing they see.

I think the neighbor believed she was literally the dog's mother, too. (She didn't have any human kids.) She used to throw birthday parties for Molly, complete with funny hats, decorations and cake. And, yeah, she invited people, and they brought presents.
