AKC Dog Show on Animal Planet at 8p.m. EST - What's your favorite breed?
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 08:30 PM by Bundbuster
Having worked in a kennel as a yute, I've had up-close contact with most breeds, hard to single out just one. But for a one-man dog, it's hard to beat a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Labs are great too, less high strung.

**This show airs again at 11 p.m. EST - immediate re-run.

A pic of my Chessy, who I will always miss:

although there are about fifteen breeds I adore. I don't have a Berner, don't have the room or time for a dog right now. It wouldn't be fair to the dog.

60. Bull Mastiffs rock!
I grew up with a bunch. Also love Golden Retrievers.

But my next dog will probably be from the pound. Too damn many homeless, unwanted animals around these days. Why? Because there are far too many idiots who buy dogs and fail to treat them right.

37. Weiner dogs rock!
I have a Dachsund/Chihuahua mix. She is the most recent addition to the tribe but now I can't imagine life without a weiner dog. Such soft little heads and winning personalities. Of course I love my Pug, too. And the Chow-Husky mix is the smartest dog I ever owned (although she is quite certain that the other two aren't really dogs :-) )

I dog-sat 2 of them years ago, and one now. Easily the smartest breed around - they seem to know in advance what you're thinking and what you wish them to do. VERY QUIET - the one I sit now has never utterred a peep in 4 years. They are also good retrievers, and very clean. A+

Okay, I will.

I don't have a dog, but my sister and the triplets' parents both have Brittanies. Two weeks ago Saturday, my sister's Brittany was running with her husband and tore a ligament. I am happy to report that MacDougall (aka Doogie) the dog had successful surgery today to repair the ligament. He will be sprung from the animal hospital tomorrow at 2 and home to rest and recover.

49. I pick
oh dear. I really love all dogs. If I have to pick:

An australian shepherd; my current dog. I don't believe it is possible for one living thing to be as closely bonded to another as she is to me. She is faithful, loving, and dependable beyond any human I've ever had in my life. She has incredible stamina; she's my "trail dog," accompanying my mare and me as we clamber around miles into the hills. She is courageous but cautious, smart, learns quickly, wants to cooperate, and loves everything in sight. Softly, never aggressively.

Other 2 favorites, neck and neck: lab, English Springer Spaniel.

Both beloved, long-term family members that have gone on.

Your Chessie was a gorgeous dog! :-)

Living close to the bay, and not all that far from the ocean, I've often enjoyed watching Chessies work out with their owners. One dog in particular amazed me...the bay was full of jellyfish, yet this dog kept going back in the water to fetch his frisbee. I guess his coat protected him from the nettles.

53. Thanks Goddess, she was a beauty
90 pounds of unleashed energy. I used to duck hunt on the Colorado River, sometimes in sub-zero temperatures, ice floes, etc. When my hunting partner's yellow lab would refuse to break through the ice and swim to retieve in mid-river (smart dog), my Chessy never once balked. She loved climbing non-technical 14,000-foot peaks with us, and would swim accross any lake when I went out windsurfing without restraining her. Since childhood, I've had a Golden (nice family dog), black lab, yellow lab, and that Chesapeake. She was the best - loyal, loving, protective 'till the end.
